It was really strange. The further south you lived, the more snow you got. We drove down to Galveston on Christmas day, and the further down I45 we got, the more snow we saw that had 'stuck' from the night before. When we got to Galveston, there were PILES of snow everywhere. We had lunch at Moody Gardens and they were literally shoveling it off the back patio. And there were snowmen all over the beach. It was really bizarre.
I've lived in Houston 31 years. It was definitely a lot colder back then than it is now. I don't miss it though. Cause it was always cold and wet.
wasn't a snow/hail hybrid on my side of town. it was flat out snow. it tapered off during different points of the day...but kept coming back. by the time i was at the christmas eve service at my old church that evening, it was coming down pretty hard.
i've lived here 32 years. when was it so much colder? i don't remember that. i remember the winter of 88 we had two ice snaps. other than that, we had some winters colder than others...some winters warmer than others. i'd bet you that's exactly what we'd find if we found some reference material for this. i remember halloween was ALWAYS a crap shoot. could be cold, like it was last year (along with rain)...or hot, like it was other years.
In 1997 there was that ice storm. I had to drive in to downtown to work that Sunday and most of the exits were closed due to ice. Our baby is due on Halloween this year, the weather better cooperate!
i remember the 97 ice storm. i worked close to home, and was the only one in my office who could get to work that day. our second baby was born the day after halloween almost 2 years ago, now. needless to say, my wife didn't go trick or treating with me and my older son that evening! i remember it was rainy the day he was born, but cleared up...and the temperature was great.
It truly is scary how the planet is warming up, temperatures are rising, and the rate the glacier ice is melting. When it's all gone...what's gonna happen? I hear the plankton are going to be one of the first casualties...along with the polar bears. Then, it just rips through the food chain. Then what? The next ice age starts. Man dies off? Al Gore better find a way to fix it all cause too many people who can do something about it are in denial or have dollar signs on their minds. It's gonna take way more than one or two people buying hybrid cars and using solar panels. The planet is going to have to renew itself. How will man survive it? We ruin everything we touch. Maybe we don't deserve to be here. The Earth is getting ready to kick our ass.
i'm not saying we're not. i don't know the degree to which we are. and i'm not saying we shouldn't be doing something about it. but the earth can shake us off like fleas. it's done it to other species before.
Geez. Do we really need to go here again? It certainly has nothing to do with the original meaning of the thread. And global warming is certainly not "fact" yet, people. I've lived in Houston the majority of 34 years. This is what the weather is like here, people. I do, however, recall driving through Abiline in April a few years ago and getting caught in a blizzard.
all in know is that this fuggin "cold" front coming through austin right now is a fuggin joke.... highs in the mid to upper 80's with lows hovering between 65-75 for the next 5 days? how's that any different than the weather we've been experiencing??? damn c*cktease of a cold front.
