If you drink a lot of coffee around the office, please use some kind of breath mint or mouthwash. The bad breath that coffee gives people is absolutely unbearable. I used to work with a guy that had such bad coffee breath that I couldn't bear to be within 10 feet of him. It was awful.
I gave up caffeine entirely. The reason coffee tastes so great in the morning is because your bady has spent the previous 8 hours (during sleep) being deprived of the drug you're addicted to. Coffee feels good when you wake up because your body is experiencing withdrawal symptoms, and the coffee alleviates the withdrawal. Since I give up caffeine, I can wake up and feel great without needing coffee. -- droxford
Any Mexican, Guatamalan or Central American coffees for me... I don't do dark roasts, African or Pacific Rim coffees. I make the exception for Kona and Jamaiican Blue Mountain. I also don't drink coffee every day... sometimes I won't have a cup for weeks. I am glad I am not addicted, I can enjoy whenever I wish without 'needing' it.
Berings actually has some great blends though I usually don't give a damn unless my secretary hasn't prepared it to my liking and its not on my desk within 5 minutes of me walking into my office!!!
I've given up most of my vices. Cigarettes and Caffeine are 2 of them. When I did drink coffee, I liked specialty types. These sound good.
Since the receptionist in my office makes coffee, I drink whatever's provided. The stronger, the better. And that "wake up without needing coffee" thing is fine if you're a morning person who gets 8 hours of sleep. As a night owl who gets at most 5 or 6 hours sleep on week nights, the caffeine is absolutely a needed boost.
One of the few decent things about living in Baton Rouge is that some of the New Orleans coffee shops are here. CC's and especailly PJ's have some good stuff. If any of you guys are ever in New Orleans and like dark roasts, check out Rue De La Course. Easily the best coffee i have ever had. Anyone else use a press? It takes an extra step so i use my machine when i dont have time, but is makes some awesome coffee. It tends make coffee with a stronger, more developed flavor but i still havent gotten used to all of the sediment.
Went to the new Whole Foods in downtown Austin yesterday (in their new Corporate building). Most fantastic Grocery Store that I've ever been to. And they roast their coffee in the store now. - - - Peet's coffee is superb.
My parents have been drinking Anderson's coffee for 35 years. We lived in Michigan when I was young, and then Alabama. Twice a month as long as I've been alive, big boxes from Anderson's would show up at the house. Now they have moved back to Austin, and despite the fact that they only live about 10 minutes from Anderson's, there are always at least 4 or 5 bags in the freezer. Ok, now I am inspired to ask them to ship some to me in San Francisco...
I'm not a cofee guy, but do love Chai Tea and Hot Chocolate... When I traveled to Colombia and Brasil, they use to look at me funny because when they'd ask, I'd say I don't drink coffee and they thought I was weird...although, some say I'm weird anyway...
I'm with bigtexx on this...Whenever people drink coffee their breath usually reeks. Ugh. I drank coffee from time to time, but never got a taste for it and hated the way it made my mouth feel and taste. Please guys, whenever you drink have some gum on you or something b/c most of us don't want to smell that funk. Especially some hardcore coffee drinkers, they're worse than smokers.
Nope, the cheapest Starbucks sells is $1.50 (pre-tax) and that is for their smallest size. I was there this morning.
BTW, IIRC, the flavor of most foods is determined by a few dozen compounds. Years ago, they had already identified something like 30,000 flavor compounds in coffee. Good coffee is a treasure from nature. My wife and I did not like coffee until a trip to Italy. Every morning, you'd get your own personal pot of cappuccino. And every day, it was perfect. I learned how to make good cappuccino when we returned, and that was it.
How do you all brew your coffee? We have a Melitta with a built-in grinder so we grind just enough to brew what we want to drink. People love it. Found it at Target. Get yours...
For those of you that make it at home I highly reccomend trying out a burr style grinder as apposed to a blade one. I have been using one for about a year and it definitly seems to provide a much more consistant grind which tends to bring out more of the flavor of the beans. Do any of you notice the diference with better drip machines? I have a cheap one that i use when i dont have time for the press. I dont need any features on it but was wondering if the better ones make the coffee any different.
