Hot take: both Cam and Jalen aren't it and we need to trade for an actual shooting guard that fits around Amen and Sengun.
Thank you! The trade rumors get crucified while a thread about Paul Wall becoming an announcer is around.
cam is a better over all player at 20 than Jalen was at 20. That’s the point I’m making. That’s why I feel he has a higher ceiling than Jalen.
Seriously. Neither one is special and the only reason they’re both polarizing is because they have potential and they were drafted here. That’s it. But I have serious doubts they’re ever going to be a starting 2 on a contender.
At 20, Jalen averaged 22 ppg against starters on the same efficiency Cam is averaging while putting up less than 10 ppg against backups.
To be fair, Jalen also averaged about 18 mpg more than what Cam currently gets. So I wouldn’t put much stock into the ppg argument. The real question is- if Cam had the minutes, reps, and opportunity to develop that Jalen has had over the past few years, who would be viewed as the better overall player?
I can’t answer that definitively, but I’m guessing no. Players don’t generally become more efficient when guarded by the opposing team’s first or second best defender. Cam, thus far, has shown he is a 1-way, selfish player who knows how to score against backups at a decent clip. That profile is one of a solid 6th - 7th man, not the leading scorer of a top 3 team in the West.
Fair argument. Theres no doubt Cam has some maturing to do. There were a couple moments in last nights game where Cam showed some flashes of unselfishness(passed up an open 3 when he was shooting extremely well to get an even better shot) and showed some good effort on defense. I’ve certainly noticed some body language things throughout the season thus far but honestly it’s kind of hard for me tell if it’s a red flag or that’s just how he is. Either way I can kinda see both sides of the argument.
If Cam was playing the same minutes as Jalen at 20...same green light..in HIS flow, he'd put up 25 - 26/gm..easy. But, we weren't playing winning basketball then For now, considering that/where we are now, Jalen's leap on the defensive end, and contract constraints...things stay the same for awhile. Let's give them both time to continue developing here. But, make no mistake...one will likely have to go eventually...
Comparing Jalen Green and Cam Whitmore is difficult. Cam would have a strong argument that he deserves 30 minutes a night if he shot better from 3 and from the line. Right now, he is very strong scoring inside the arc - rebounds well and gets the steals and blocks. Cam isn't a great passer - Green is better, but he isn't exactly T-Mac as a passing two guard himself. Cam is one of the players that has taken advantage of Smith being out and has an avenue to more minutes if he is a little more consistent and improves his perimeter shooting. It really isn't Green versus Cam - because if Cam reaches his potential, he will get minutes and shots.
Again, I disagree. Cam has a green light basically when he plays against backups, and his efficiency has been poor. Not sure why anyone thinks he’d put up 25+ against starters, particularly if he received the defensive attention Green receives. Absolutely feels like backup quarterback syndrome.
To be truthful, I totally enjoyed back in the day when the original Riddler (@Doc Rocket) posted his riddles! I'm not a fan of posts like this anymore. Not saying Cod or anyone else who who does this type of post's doesn't have connections and might actually be trying to impart some valuable hidden insights, but I just don't have the patience or fortitude for guessing anymore! I guess the internet has made me more impatient regarding knowing/finding facts! Spoiler: Mandatory.... ....... ....... .......
It definitely is backup quarterback syndrome. Jalen’s destiny is that of a 6th man in the NBA. It many not be on this team but he will end up being a 6th man on any team with championship aspersions
I mean, riddles are fine. I just wish after the dust settles, at some point he would come back and give us the answers. As is we have no idea what he’s trying to tell us. Just pure guesses that lead to nowhere. That part is puzzling to me.
Whatever you say. If you think the leading scorer of a top 5 team at 22 is no more than a sixth man, that’s your opinion, and people are allowed to have dumb opinions in America.
Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes across the hills, through the heartland. read into that what you want!
In the off-season, Jalen, Cam, any filler and every pick we can muster for Ant. At least, give it a try. Minnesota is a 2nd apron team and cannot aggregate contracts. Nobody in their right mind will take on Gobert or Randall and Minnesota has no picks of value to give away to get rid of them. Amen, Ant, Dillon, Jabari, Sengun with FVV restructured, Tari, Williams III and a couple of journeymen shooters can rival OKC for best in the West.
I'm not sure now, but I think he has actually come back later and mentioned who he had referenced in his posts.
I would 100% do this, but I don’t think Minnesota bites. Their books clear after next season, and they have a lot of young talent around Ant. McDaniel, DD, Naz, Dillingham, NAW.
