It depends on Capela, if he can stay with low cost, we can keep our big 6. Otherwise we will sign another big such as AD, cousins, m gasol, jordan etc If leborn comes, we need to lose a lot of 3 points players which breaks MDA systems will have chance to become another OKC. Morey needs to think, about it. NEED TO TAKE RISK. We may just get 1 champion only.

I don't know about you, I never dogged Ryno for rebounds. He sucks at boxing out, but I don't want to see 10 boards/game from him. I frankly don't give a **** about that. I want more rebounds from Capela, Harden, Luc, PJ, if anything.

You kind of changed your argument, you were just talking about all-star teams.... Now, if you're asking if he's a "star" player, I'd say maybe 50-50. You don't have to be top-10 in the league to be a star player, IMO. Too many good players in the league.

Excellent post. I like either of those 2 young guys w/ high ceilings joining the core of Harden/Capela with CP3 the elder statesman. If not Capela, someone to bridge the gap until Zhou Qi/Hartenstein are ready the following season.

Those guys are hardly good comps as to fair market value for KLove
They are all elite playmakers who create shots for themselves & teammates by initiating plays as a ball-handling Guard
You can run your entire offense thru them all game/season long as they are true #1 alphas (maybe except Nash)

The only type of offense you can run thru Love is via post-ups (and his HoF outlet passes)
How many good teams have an offense that is currently initiated primarily thru a post entry pass?
That's 90's NBA basketball, a style for which Love would have been ideally suited
Today he is a #2 option at best
Considering the disintegration of CLE this year without Kyrie in the #2 role to LBJ, Love may be no better than a #3 on a true contender

Better comps would be LMA, Horford, Brook Lopez, both Gasols ...
Many of those guys entered the league as back-to-the-basket 4s & 5s over a decade ago, just like Love
Now most have been forced to evolve into outside shooting stretch 5s just to stay on the court

As their current deals expire, and the anomalous bloated deals of 2 years ago fade, I think the market will show this going forward:
Stretch Bigs that do not provide rim protection on DEF are now role players in this NBA, not stars

I just don’t think a player who’s great at defense and is a well rounded utility player is an allstar.

What player is making the allstar team avg 10/7/7 if he’s not on the warriors?

The warriors getting 4 allstar selections imo is on name only not actual play. It’s based on what they have accomplished as a team.

Which is fine there on of the best team ever and if that makes you an allstar so be cause apparently it does.

    But I don’t think green is a star I don’t think it’s 50/50 as you put it.

Is draymond green as your best player taking you to even 40 wins? I don’t think so but we’ll prob never find out.

You're trying to now call him some kind of super-star. How many super-stars are out there? For me, that number is very small. Top-8, at best.

You don't have to be a super-star player to make the all-star team. If you want to say he's not an all-star give me 3-6 PFs in the West who's better at 4 than Dray.

Again, I continue to believe, without Dray, GSW is NOT a top-3 team in the West.

A healthy K.Love is a great shooter and rebounder as a 4/5 , almost an impossible matchup for anyone - Key word is Healthy.

He's managed to stay just healthy enough to get paid big money and collect it from the trainers table.

I'd take the player , not the contract ....

So let's assume for a minute that financial concerns are off the table and that people are so stoked to come to / stay in Houston to win a title that they will do whatever it takes to make it happen...
    1. Find a way to sign Capela long term and get the man paid.
    2. Use hometown / championship ring as lure to sign DJ
    3. Sign 2 - 3 40% 3 point shooters / Top 50 defenders
    Start with:

PG - Harden / Paul (40 minutes of world class PG) + Gordon (#3 PG)
    C - Capela / Jordan (40 minutes of elite rim protection) + Black (#3 C)

Harden - 37% 3 pt shooter, #43 in defensive win shares
Paul - 38.5% 3 pt shooter, #47 in defensive win shares
Gordon - 35.3% 3 pt shooter, #35 in defensive win shares

The other 7 (expected) slots in the roster can be filled out with flex / 3 & D players:

Return the following Guard / Wing rotation:

Ariza - 38% 3 pt shooter, #50 in defensive win shares
LMM - 36% 3 pt shooter, #26 in defensive win shares
Tucker - 37% 3 pt shooter, #70 in defensive win shares
    Anderson (#3 C) - 38.6% 3 pt shooter, #165 in defensive win shares
Greene - 36.8% 3 pt shooter, #99 in defensive win shares

Leaving 2 open spots. In a perfect world, these guys are 40%+ 3 point shooters with superior defensive skills

#1 - Paul George - 41% 3 pt shooter, #25 in defensive win shares (player option end of 2018)
    #2 - JJ Redick - 41% 3 pt shooter, #27 in defensive win shares

Bonus pick - not 40% this year, but he's a 39.6% shooter over his career
#3 - Danny Green - 36.9% 3 pt shooter, #42 in defensive win shares (player option end of 2018)

Add any two of George, Redick and Green and you've improved both outside shooting and added 2 top 50 defensive players, giving the Rox possibly the best lineup in NBA history.

With Jordan and Capela you have the added dimension to play with 2 bigs, giving Houston yet another variation and you can keep both players rested and have tremendous depth in the event of injury. DJ has already made bank, so he might be more ring motivated.

No idea if the cash can be made to work, but this is at least plausible if all the peeps want to be here.

Just for giggles here's the bigs in DWS:

Capela - #79 in defensive win shares
DJ - #127 in defensive win shares
Tarik Black - #404 in defensive win shares

Most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. I would bet anything those "BIG" players will be overrated and next years team will be worse than this one.

Paul George is a joke. He lacks substance because he's passive and lacks elite skill or athleticism. DeAndre Jordan is marginally better than Capela offensively and a tad worse defensively, at best.

There are not that many truly great players of substance in the NBA like Chris Paul. Chris Paul is a legitimate MVP level impact guy. The Paul George's, DJ's, Kyrie Irving's and all elses don't contribute to winning at the highest levels.

I'd look for a thir star but this 4th, 5th and 6th stuff is ridiculous and bound to underperform.

I'd try to resign Capela to a reasonable deal and try to get Deandre Jordan to sign a team friendly deal, after that find wing players that can shoot and defend decently. I'd be nice to get a third star but it really isn't necessary if we do win the the championship this year. Just try to resign everybody and sign 1-3 more decent players.

    That’s true

But nobody says horford is a top 15 player like green. I guess that’s my bigger gripe that the allstar selection.

I just hold star player in higher regard than most I guess because Iv had this same debate many times over the years.

Draymond green is not a star.

Who’s a better player draymond green or Paul George?

I think PG13 is better and I don’t consider him a superstar but I do think he’s an allstar level player and too 15 in the league.

To me there is only 5-6 true superstar in the nba (Lebron, Harden, KD, curry, kawhi) then you have the 3 polarizing stars that put up the superstar numbers with less team results (AD, Giannis, Russ) then the next guys are the allstar guys (PG13, derozan, Lowry, Irving, butler, a few others)

Green and Horford are not in either of those tiers imo neither is Horford who I actually think is a better offensive player than green in every aspect.

The PF position is the weakest it’s been maybe ever so I can’t name 3-6 better ones out west.

But why do 3 pf even need to make the allstar team why not just fowards in general? That’s how they do it anyways.

Anthony Davis, Paul George, KD, jimmy Butler, Lamarcus Aldridge, kawhi Leonard.

That’s 6 fowards that are all better players than Green.

Sub Green in for LaMarcus Aldridge on these spurs this year without Kawhi and there’s no way there better than what they are now.

Not saying green can’t make an allstar team per se but that him being a no brainer lock every year and all nba selection is a by product of playing on possibly the best team ever as the 4th option.

And I don’t by them being the 3rd seed without green.

I just don’t understand how a team with curry and Durant is still not competing for the 1st seed and add klay with that I find it hard to believe that wouldn’t be the case.

Either you think green is the best player on that team which I don’t think you think or you don’t think KD and Steph are as good as everyone else?

Those guys are MVPs how can they not be good enough without green to win a title or challenge houston for the best record.

Harden is on those guys level but cp3 while great is not. If we can do so can they.

This is literally what I just posted about.

Do you actually believe Draymond Green contributes to winning at a lesser level than Paul George?

Draymond from 2015 to 2017 had MVP kind of impact. He had substance. Horford also has substance and has been Boston's best player last year and this one.

This is the problem with just hunting names like Morey likes to do. I'm starting to think he tries to go for superstars for the acclaim and not actually building optimal teams.

He wanted the tattered corpse of Carmelo Anthony this year. If Carmelo Anthony could be considered apart of a "big" anything I don't een want to imagine any other "big" players in mind.

Capela and DeAndre Jordan will not be on the same team. Highly doubt it. Reason being money and both want
to start. Jordan is not coming off the bench for Capela.....just my opinion.

Nene has a special bond with the Rockets.....with Codman. Not going anywhere. Nene is under contract next
year while T Black is a free agent. If Black shows improvement in these final 8 games and playoffs, then maybe
    the Rockets will re-sign him.

Paul George is a pipe dream. No secret he wants to be with his favorite team growing up the Lakers.
If not them the Thunder have bird rights I believe. They can offer 5-year deal and have it easy riding the
coattails of the energizer bunny Westbrook.

I do think Redick would consider lesser money to reunite with CP3 after making so much this year with 76ers.

After seeing LaMarcus Aldridge last night....I think the Rockets are in play for LMA. D’Antoni would be able
to work a 5-2 PnR with Aldridge playing the 5 and Harden of course as the 2. Then move into their iso with
Harden vs the center or Aldridge setting up on the block vs a *shooting guard. Both would have
B-B-Q chicken all day. Or Aldridge receiving the pop, in P-n-Pop.

*vs point guard if they run 5-1 PnR with CP3.

Not a fan of Aldridge but I think something like that will happen, someone who is not really on the radar will pop up.

I’m with you on Aldridge. I’m not a fan of LMA. He has been fading since teams figured out that post up
are not an efficient shot over others. But the Warriors force a switch and then use the size mismatch to
their advantage in a post play. Houston has re-introduced the iso the same way. Force the switch
and let Harden or CP3 go 1-on-1 vs the oversized center or power forward.

Copy cat league. Teams are seeing how Houston has done that. I was watching the Spurs and Jazz
last night, the Jazz were running the Rockets high PnR to force a switch and then move into a Donavan
Mitchell iso. Just a side note....does anyone see a lot of Harden in Mitchell? Uncanny.

Anyway, It has provided Aldridge a new found life in the NBA. He has always been good in PnR
because he hits a good 8-10 footer. The way he has reinvented himself is to just turn to his right
or baseline (back to basket) and go into that fadeaway 8-10 footer. Stats show that a majority
of post ups end up as 8-10 footers anyway. Most centers that run post ups (such as D12) can’t shoot.
Aldridge can hit that shot. He has learned to give up the fakes of sweeping across (when facing up)
and drive for an up and under because of the weak side defender coming across the lane/baseline.
He has learned to just shoot over the top of that double team action in the form of a fadeaway (with
smaller fakes or hints of driving).

The ability to play two positions (center/PF) is the lure for Morey. We will see if the **it hits the fan in SA
and if Aldridge opts out. I have to readjust my Aaron Gordon Max money to $26.5 mil. I mentioned
it as $29 mil; but several articles I’ve read since list him @ $26.5 mil/yr on the average. Just FYI.
