Dr Pepper tastes like the liquor Amaretto which many people put in coffee. You stumbled into something... I bet the mix tastes great, coffee and cola seem like they could blend well. Open your minds people!
I think "suiting" to american tastes just means making it sweeter. I'll try almost anything once, but Cocacoffe sounds disgusting.
Coffee soda sounds disgusting. And as if that wasn't enough, the thought of "Berries and Cream" made me throw up a little in my mouth, mostly because it made me think of Peaches and Cream. Yeah, you know the stuff. Edit: Did we lose pic posting rights again?
Who's gonna try it first? http://www.houstonchronicle.com/disp/story.mpl/life/3765718.html Coffee/cola fusion drink creates a buzz Beverage hits shelves today By LANA BERKOWITZ Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle Mission: Coke Blak ($1.99 for a four-pack) Assignment: Interrogate random subjects about the coffee-cola concoction that hits markets today. Coca-Cola's carbonated fusion beverage is aimed at a mature demographic and could compete against PepsiCo's two coffee drinks — Starbucks DoubleShot and Starbucks Frappuccino. Tactics: Take a four-pack to Hermann Park Friday afternoon for taste tests. After a stop at a grocery store to pick up cups and a fast-food restaurant for cups of ice, the hunt is on. The two women seated at picnic table with a toddler in a stroller look like sitting ducks. While waiting for other family members to return from a paddle-boat ride on Hermann Park's lake they agree to a taste test. The stepmother is particularly interested because she likes Coke and coffee — separately. • Margie Robertson, 50, of Clute usually drinks two cups of coffee and four or five cans of Coke each day. Comments: "It gives you coffee breath — there's a definite aftertaste." Buy it? No. • Angela Robertson, 21, of Waco doesn't drink coffee, but she likes Coke and Coke with lime, preferably Sonic Cokes. Comments: "Interesting taste, but I taste the coffee." "Without ice it's pretty nasty." Buy it ? No. Two men at a table near the lake are easy marks. The former barista had heard about Coca-Cola Blak and is eager to try it. • Logan Motter, 26, of Houston has worked at Starbucks. He drinks Red Bull, coffee, tea and a lot of water. Comments: "It's not sour like Coke." "It would be really good if it was diet." "Reminds me of chocolate Coke my mother made for us in California." Buy it? Yes. • Jeremy Baker, 27, of Houston drinks Coke and Cherry Coke. Comments: "Cool bottle." "Tastes like Coke, but not quite the bite of Coke. Kind of Coke watered-down." Buy it? "Yeah, I would." The young couple sharing lunch in a shady area on the wide sidewalk near the playground hesitated slightly before agreeing to a taste test. They had finished their drinks, Fanta Strawberry. • Shelli Monae, 18, of Houston prefers lemonade, water and cranberry juice. Drinks one cup of coffee a day. Comments: "Sounds good." "I like it." Buy it? Yes. • Timothy Cooper, 20, of Houston drinks a lot of Hi-C Fruit Punch and Sprite. Comments: "Barely taste the Coke." "Tastes like coffee with cream and sugar." Buy it? Yes. With a Diet Coke in one hand and leash in the other, the dog walker was easy to intercept. • Paula DeLeon, 50, of Houston says she's a caffeine fiend. She drinks coffee and Diet Coke. Comments: "Smells good." "I like it." The little dog, Winnie, was only offered ice. Buy it? Probably not because it has 45 calories. Reeled in by the dog walker, a young mother trailing two kids on bicycles stops for a taste. • Heather Thurman, 26, of Katy drinks Coke and Cherry Coke but not coffee. Comments: "It's disgusting." "Tastes a lot like coffee." The kids, who are not usually allowed caffeine drinks, get sips from mom's cup and like it. Buy it? No. Back at the office at 4 p.m., two co-workers marvel at my interrogation success. "I wouldn't drink anything that you offered me out of that bag," says the 20-something. But when offered a sample, he takes it. Then the 30-something asks for a taste. They both like it. Mission accomplished.
ive given up on coca-cola, i stick to dr.pepper or pepsi. ever since the whole put vanilla and cherry and lime and lemon and grapefruit and pineapple and carrots. and all kinds of crazy **** in coke, i said screw that. if i drink coke its classic, just leave it alone. its like the pizza thing, dominos and pizza hut are constantly changing the pizza but they couldnt even get it right the first time. pitiful.
Thought I'd bring this thread back up instead of starting a new one... I tried a sample today at the grocery store, and I have to say that I was pleasently suprised. It was definitely better than I thought it would be, althought that might not be saying much, since I didn't have very high expectations to begin with. You can DEFINITELY taste the coffee flavor. They didn't make the coffee taste subtle like soda companies are known to do with new flavors. The coffee taste is really mellow, though. It has a frappachino type flavor, not just a straight coke/black coffee flavor that I was expecting. I don't drink soda anymore, so I won't be drinking it, but I could definitely see it succeeding as a niche soda. I think Coke will make a good profit off of it based on its price alone. It was $4.99 for a four pack, and that was a sale price. The sample lady says it retails for $7.99 for a four pack.
I had my first bottle (8 oz) yesterday and I must say it was quite delicious. I wouldn't want to drink a giant glass of it, but it's good in a starbucks double shot kind of way.
I had a sip of it yesterday. My buddy brought about 12 bottles of the stuff. Blah... it's bizarre... tastes like a frappuccino with some coke thrown in... what made it worse was that it was carbonated... like I said... bizarre.
I'm not a coffee drinker, but I have to say that the bottle I had wasn't too bad. I won't drink it all the time...more of a change of pace type thing...
