I have to admit that I was not impressed with Mchale's postgame comments today. He didn't really say anything horribly wrong but nothing particularly insightful. Hope his analysis picks up when he watches the tape (or that he is just keeping secrets to the team and away from the media).
I'm going to hope that Coaching - involves Harden Lin Omer Delfino and Parsons and a few other veterans and gets their input.
You obviously haven't been watching, lin does not have the ball the majority of the time. With in 2 seconds he passes it to harden. Harden has been playing the pg role, he's the one that has the majority of the ball. And the reason people are freaking out is because of how they are playing the offense, if you had reasonable knowledge of the game you would see how much of a backward, sloppy mess there running. The offense consists of give the ball to harden for a high p&r and everyone else standing around. H
I still remember the end of the 3rd quarter against Portland when Harden went to the bench and it was just Lin running the team. The team got energized and the crowd got into it. The Rockets went from being down by 5 to being down by 1 in just 1.5 minute of play. I'm not saying that Harden should ride the bench, but the coaching staff needs to utilize Lin's biggest asset - decision making and making passes. Maybe do some ISOs for Harden once in awhile to break it up, but the majority of time, it should be Lin making the majority of decisions.
Like someone said earlier, its still early. Hopefully the rest of the coaching staff and Mchale brings back more trust with Lin running PnR and forcing the defenses to worry about lin dishing to other teammates. Once they rotate over from Lin utilizing the rest of the team, it causes trouble because we have Harden. Pick your poison like what everyone else is saying on this board. Someone earlier mentioned also that nuggets and portland have a pretty decent defense as well, so these last two game are good lesons to be analyzed and learn.
Hero ball is here to stay, that's what Les likes. Star players with no supporting casts is what Les does best. Welcome aboard.
McHale is a horrible coach who seems to want to limit the PG's involvement in the offense. Didn't he and Lowry butt heads too? he needs to get his head of out his ass and realize we need to play to our talents at our PG and SG position, not try to play whatever the hell we're trying to play right now.
I was just going to point out that didnt lowry and dragic have issues with Mchale in the past as well? They both are players who must run the offense through them, and if Lin is now playing under this coach thats something to take notice of. Then again, its also only 4 games in so maybe McHale will change things up...maybe. But after 3 practices you shouldnt be a team that looks this lost.
6 this... I said if this was what Lins Job was going to be here in a Rox uniform... I would have rather he stayed in NY and dump it into post players like Melo, Amare, even Tyson...
Actually, it's not uncommon. Denver was 0-3 before last night. Lakers had a horrific record. The NETS are still looking lost. TONS of teams with far more experienced players and more talent are struggling at this moment. Really, the Rockets are 2-2... this is excellent considering Harden wasn't here for trading camp and we have 13 NEW players, with the majority being rookies. Seriously, people need to relax. It takes TIME to build a smooth offensive machine. Right now, Harden and Lin both look horribly uncomfortable. I expect part of this is trying to become familiar with eachother, part of it is they're all learning the sets... alot of thinking vs doing. Also it seems that McHale is being very specific about what he wants to see on the floor at any given time. As in many things, I'm betting it will look ugly before it starts looking better. Learning something new is often like that.
like others have said Lin passing the ball before he crosses the 3 point line and running to a 3 point line to shoot the ball is not his game... Harden a better shooter... would probably play better with a defender coming at him... where he can decide to shoot the ball or drive it in and Asik is not a low post offensive threat its not just a bad game... its what the coach is trying to do with these guys... btw its not all about Lin... maybe you dont care you need to tailor the game to his strengths... but camping at the 3 point line isnt it... and that will mean lost games unless you think Lin will turn into a 3 point specialist
