I guess you could say it didnt seem like the team has chemistry, but the first two games probably spoiled us then. Tonight's game just looked like a mess. I saw a couple times Harden and James telling some players the positions to be in and they were visibly frustrated...hopefully it gets better soon.
Some observations: I didn't understand why they went away from Patterson in the post. He was playing great then got forgotten. Lin wasn't involved in the first half at all. He and Harden should be taking turns like people have already mentioned. I still don't think Morris is very good but at least he was playing hard. That being said... he should be Parson's backup not Patterson's. Terrance Jones at least needs to get some burn soon. I'm missing Greg Smith. The man knows how to finish inside.
Mchale is a terrible coach..the reason Rockets were decent last year...is because the offense play style and chemistry was left over from Adelman. Now Mchale has to start from scratch and build his own team style and chemistry and so far he's done a terrible job of it. He doesn't even coach...I remember Jeff Van Gundy would be near mid court coaching up a storm..telling guys what to do and which plays to run. Mchale doesn't do any of that...he just waltzes back and fourth with a confused look on his face. The criticism of Mchale is justified. No strategy, no nothing..just a bunch of iso ball... How do you have 3 days of practice and comeback worse then you were....that's proof right their he's a terrible coach. Our next coach needs to be a strategist..someone who can actually draw up plays. Even JVG offense was way better...it wasn't pretty but it worked! All I've seen so far is a bunch of iso ball & players jacking up desperation shots. There is a reason we lost 7 of or last 10 games last year. Mchales stubbornness and refusal to play a real center..Ppat & Scola front court lineup was terrible...he's showing the same stubbornness with his refusal to play our rookies. This could be a playoff team..if we had a decent coach. And his refusal to play the rookies is hurting our rebuilding process. We need to see what we have in Tjones, Dmo & White. Notice how GOOD coaches like Popovich develop rookies and allows young players to contribute and improve by throwing them into the fire. ex. Kwali Leonard. Other teams our playing and developing their rookies while were not none of this..I don't play rookies, I'm old school nonsense! END RANT
maybe, and this is a shocking idea, but detroit and atlanta are not good at defence and denver and portland have defensive stoppers at SG? And these are young players who are going to make mistakes?
No one who can score in the post. No reliable perimeter scorer. Coach who doesn't know how to run and offense. This is going to be a very long season folks.
Just frustrated that players are playing out of position so much. JLin a SG? PPat at the 3 point line taking spot up shots? Harden the newcomer with no chemistry yet trying to make plays? Also, I would rather have JLin be backup PG to Harden than both on the court with Harden as PG. Then JLin would be 6th man of the year and Harden would actually have a player he could pass to. Also, when JLin is on the court, Harden takes a break from PG and does SG duties .
Bring in Coach D. Lin said he was a offensive genius and hey, he was an Olympic coach. He'll let Lin definitely run the show.
Other teams know this and are defending via double teaming or just aggressive defending. With no one else capable of consistently scoring outside of taking long range shots... a good example would be Harden's previous team OKC in the finals, not much we can do when the shots are falling.
tonights game was all kinds of frustration to watch. like watching longhorn basketball. terrible offense and always decent defending and timely 3's to keep us close. seems like it's either harden/jlin penetrating but nobody moves off the ball. delfino only stands on the 3 point line. ppat was the only player playing well throughout. excellent posts and spot up 3's from the baseline. asik was also playing decently. double double at halftime. though we can't be counting on that every game. only the beginning but i don't see much improvement especially with the plays mchale seems to draw up out of timeouts/breaks. terrible shots and movement of the ball
One bad game and you people are freaking out. Take a deep breath, get your mommy to bring you cookies and milk, go to sleep and then think about it. It seemed to work the first couple of games so lets see how things work out. By the way, Lin is the point guard, so that means he is going to have the ball the majority of the time. He has the ball enough as it is. All we run is the pick and roll and if that fails he gives it up to Harden. Lin is good but he isn't as good as he was in New York because we don't have two stars in Melo and Amare to take the pressure off of Lin. The truth is, you new fans are overvaluing Lin to the extreme. He is not going to save this team by himself.
We have the best back court when Harden and Lin both are offensive threats and can play off each other. If its just - have Harden get fenced into a corner with 2 guys on him and a 3rd guy waiting to pick off the dish. And you have McHale - put lin at the far, far end. You might as well stick Lin on the bench. Also players have GOT to hustle more on those rebounds. No one has yet to note when Lin had that clutch jump ball - he WINS the jump - but teammate isn't ready to contest for it. Nuggets ball. Patterson & Parsons have to HUSTLE - as much as I am seeing Omer James and Jeremy hustle. On both ends of the court. I still don't see any fire in the eyes of Patterson and Parsons. I see youth and an attempt to "keep calm" but its only been a few games and they are in a state of Chaos with coaching attempting to WARP and Sodomize the offense they've been able to slowly build up. They are the youngest team in the league - they should be hustling and out-running teams, sprinting back and forth tiring the other teams out. Farieed shouldn't be showing more energy then half the Rocket team. If your young your testosterone levels should be relatively high - im going to assume that at least Harden has high T levels based on - him making it rain on single moms the other night. But these other young guys have to start developing their swagger. Which is why I want to see more Cole. He may be the largest liability with fouls but he gots swag/energy/attitude. Hell I want to see Parsons, Harden, Lin - and the rest DUNK with authority. Can we please get someone to fricking make cuts for some dunks! Long-bomb cherry pick dunks ~ We know Jeremy Lin can QB these - we just need someone hustling that wants to dunk the ball. HUSTLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE~
The coded red sentence should apply to you and judging by what you said about Lin proved that you have never watched him play, including tonight's game. Go to the bed and goodnite.
The reason why this post failed was because you are stating that Lin was good because of Amare and Melo. This clarifies that you did not actually watch Lin play before and after or understand that Linsanity was - without Amare and Melo. Amare and Melo ruined Linsanity.
What is the offensive style of the rockets because I don't know. Young talent sits while journeymen play. The sg runs the point while the point plays like a set shooter. The pf is the weakest rebounder. They play a 3 in the 4 spot. The pf is designed to shoot 3 pointers. They have the youngest legs but yet their the ones tired on the court. They fast break into a half court setup. Our center posts up but doesn't shoot the ball(he passes it out). Am I lying about anything I've said? It's looking like the players are not buying in either. This is what mchale and the coaching staff have come up with. I don't agree and am very frustrated!
I think Cole can score in the post - there is a clear example of it in the game. Give the team time to work on their shooting - we are fine on the perimeter. We have an issue mainly with the Power Forward and Small Forwards needing to be more effective on rebounds/defense/scoring/cuts/hustle/etc. I think our bench has improved a little. This is going to be a great season once the coaching catches up with the strengths of our players & figures out a good 2nd unit.
