Thats a pretty good line-up, espcially if yorke has Flea with him. What's up with the ?s behind his name? I would've liked to see Wilco, but I won't be greedy.

Are the tickets on sale? I looked yesterday, but couldn't find them.

Coachella is on my to do list as well.

I have been to the Bang Music Festival, Winter Music Conference, but the best I have been to so far was the Sziget Festival in Budapest tis past summer. Absolutely insane.

The ????? are just how he bills himself as a solo artist. He did the same thing at his recent shows in L.A.

And those are the shows he played with Flea. Happy with that. Thanks.

I don't get why they include Jay Z at these festivals. I mean his core audience probably aren't even familiar with the majority of the other acts here. Likewise, I don't see the indie music fan listening to Jay Z much either.

Well Jay Z and Beyonce were at a Grizzly Bear concert not too long ago, so maybe there's some more cross pollinization of listening tastes then fans would think there is.

I've a question for Coachella veterans: do you guys normally pitch a tent on the festival grounds and brave the elements (rain or shine), or get a hotel room somewhere? I'm thinking of going for the first time and wanted some tips. Thanks!

Yeah it's already been answered in this thread, but I've been the last 2 years and gotten a hotel both times. Haven't regreted it once. You can get rooms for a reasonable rate in nearby towns such as Palm Springs/Cathedral City/Palm Desert.

i remember an interview where he was saying they couldnt figure out a name for the band, so i guess they are just sticking w/ this. there's already that other band called !!!!!!!. im going to start a band called #### u.k.

on their website they say they moved the camping to the grassy polo fields right by the festival itself. when i went in 04 they had us out in some city park by a small lake that was not on the coachella grounds. sounds like its a little more regulated now, which could be good or bad depending on how much of a party animal you are. when i went it was pretty much a free for all into the morning.

Its finally next week! Can't wait. I'm taking Friday and maybe Monday off. Gonna be spending the next week getting to know some of the bands better. Only downside is my friend waited on getting the RV spot so we had to get one at an RV camp a couple of miles away.

Looking forward to Thom Yorke and Flea the most.

Hey Wakko, I was just about to bump this thread and was gonna ask if you were going. Guess you are. :)

I'm flying out on Thursday into Palm Springs. So freaking excited! I'm going to be completely worthless these few days at work. I'm already having trouble sleeping lately with all of the anticipation.

If you have any questions or anything let me know. Happy Coachella!

Man I am so damn psyched. We're picking up the RV early Friday then driving over. Should take about two hours from San Diego. It just sucks that we're in an off-site RV park.

I heard to pack lots of water, can you take it in the festival? Also what time do things start on Friday? Any other tips?

Aside from those, who are you looking forward to most?

Technically the rule is that they don't allow water into the festival. Each year though I've brought in a 6 pack and put it in my locker and I haven't had any trouble. Water there is really cheap though, so really you're just better off buying it as you need it.

And speaking of lockers, that is one of the things I would HIGHLY recommend you getting. The have a huge row of lockers setup just at the festival entrance, and they have been invaluable to me the last few years. The lockers are great for storing merchandise, sunblock, a light jacket for the evenings, etc. Otherwise you're going to be carrying around a backpack or something all day, and thats a pain in the ass. Here's the link to reserve one: http://lockersonline.com/reserve.php

I think the fest actually starts on Friday at noon. We should be getting the set times tonight or early tomorrow morning, so that should help you get a better idea of when you want to show up each day. I usually get there at around 2 or so each day.

Here's who I am looking forward to seeing the most:

    Friday:
    LCD Soundsystem
    Grizzly Bear
    Fever Ray
    She & Him
    Yeasayer
    DJ Lance Rock
    Deer Tick
    Proxy!
    Gil Scott-Heron
    Sleigh Bells
    Little Dragon

    Saturday:
    MGMT
    the Dead Weather
    Hot Chip
    2ManyDJ's
    the XX
    Edwarde Sharpe
    Bad Lieutenant
    White Rabbits
    Girls
    Beach House

    Sunday:
    Gorillaz
Thom Yorke aka Atoms For Peace
    Phoenix
    Orbital
    Julian Casablancas
    Plastikman
    Charlotte Gainsbourg
    Club 75
    Jonsi
    Deerhunter
    Matt & Kim
    the Big Pink
    Florence and the Machine
    Local Natives
    the Soft Pack

    Sunday is gonna be insane!!

Thanks for the heads up man. If you see anyone in a Texans hoodie in the evening, that'll probably be me. Have fun.

On another note, it will be cool to see three basists that are arguably in the top five all time in Flea, John Paul Jones and Les Claypool. My two favorite bands are the Peppers and Radiohead so Atoms for Peace is easily my the most anticipated going in.

Just got back from the Coachella valley. Man was it awesome! Some quick thoughts.

-Thom Yorke and Flea definitely took care of business.
-I was surprised how good Muse was.
-Them Crooked Vultures are fantastic live.
-God there were a lot of attractive women.
    -Beer is pricey.

I really enjoyed it and am going to try and make it again next year.

I'm still recovering. I seem to get sick every year right after Coachella and this year is no different. Ugh.

Thom Yorke was definitely my favorite set of the weekend. Radiohead is my favorite band and I love The Eraser, so I had really high expectations for his set, which were totally exceeded. High energy, great sounds, and pretty awesome in the visual department as well.

Other highlights for me were Fever Ray, Grizzly Bear, LCD Soundsystem, Deerhunter, Proxy, Julian Casablancas, and Edward Sharpe. Gorillaz was good musically but they had hyped up a big production and I was a little disappointed that there wasn't really anything mind blowing.

The music this year was the best Coachella I've been to, but the organization of the festival was by far the worst. They sold waaaay too many tickets. I hated that for most acts you had to arrive at the stage/tent about 20 mins early if you wanted any chance of a decent spot. It was crazy that even the smaller acts were absolutely packed and had people spilling out of the tents from all directions. The previous Coachella's I've attended haven't been like that at all. Also on Friday night I got to the parking lot at 12:30 AM and didn't get out until 3 AM. It was ridiculous.

Even with those complaints it was an amazing time and the performances were fantastic. Glad you had a good time Wakko. :)

Thanks Harrisment, you too. Yeah it was pretty packed. It was frustrating to always be in the back of the crowd. Great time though, gonna probably do it again next year. Highly recommended.
