I get wanting the festival experience and the ease to check out so many acts at once. But I personally prefer the WMC parties. This would be more comparable to SXSW though I suppose. Ultra feels a bit rushed (so many late starts and many sets get cut short) and the sound isn't great. WMC week has several killer lineups each night, proper club systems, and plenty of time and space to take it all in.
Yeah that list isn't confirmed acts, but Muse is about as close to confirmed as anyone. I'd be absolutely shocked if they weren't on the lineup. As for where to stay....both years that I've been I have stayed in hotels in Cathedral City, which is a small town right next to Palm Springs. It's about a 25 min drive to the festival each day and it's not bad at all. Personally I'm the kind of person that needs a clean shower and a good night of sleep if I'm going to be listening to music for 3 days in the desert. I also like spending some time checking out restaurants and stuff in these towns, so that's what we do on Thursday evenings and each day for lunch before heading to the Polo grounds. I've always wanted to camp and many people say you're not getting the full experience without camping, but I just don't think I could handle it. I'm 30 though, so if you are younger then maybe it's for you. If you do decide to get a room, the place we stayed at last year was awesome. I've already reserved my room for this year. The prices have gone up a little. Last year I was able to get a full 1 bedroom condo for $135/night. This year I just got the studio which is smaller, and it is $130 /night. It's a real nice clean place though and you should check it out if you decide not to camp: Cimarron Raintree Resort
Also I just scored a killer deal on airfare and booked it this morning. Flights from Houston to Palm Springs had been going for $360 at the cheapest, and this morning United has lowered their rates for some reason and I was able to get roundtrip for $221 each!
damn that's cheap. if I hadn't just had a kid I would be all over it this year. Thom Yorke solo show!
We'll see. I'm not putting too much stock in the Thom Yorke thing as that just came out of nowhere yesterday. I'll be very pleasantly surprised if he's on the poster.
Yeah congrats Blake! The one getting married, not the one that I hate for getting to see the Pixies and Radiohead in the same night.
Hopefully not. It would really be cool to see him with Flea. I know that he's got stuff thats still new so him being there isn't that much of a long shot. Then again, Radiohead is working on new stuff. How awesome of a surprise would it be if they played? Harrisment-Thanks for the advice, we're about the same age. I'll have to see what the general group consensus is. I'd be down for camping, but showering is pretty important too.
If Adam Yauch is healthy and the Beastie Boys make this their first show since the cancer announcement, then I'll be there...
Looks like we'll be getting the lineup on Tuesday. From the official Coachella twitter at around 2 this morning: If the past is any indication, this means it will likely leak late Monday evening.
Yeah they have those big portable shower trailers. I would encourage you to read the FAQ, there is a ton of good info on there. Here is the one from the 2009 site...I would expect the 2010 version to be out in the next couple days. I know a couple of the big differences in 2010 will be that you only pay per camp spot, not per person. And they are going to allow in/outs for the first time this year during the festival. http://www.coachella.com/visitors/onsite-camping
