That's pretty much how I have felt about every draft day since the championship years. Over the last twelve years, the Rockets must have had the worst scouts in the league, just a horrible appraisal of talent. From Langhi to Novak, where do they find these guys? Then they get Gay, finally an athletic guy with skills, he doesn't last the evening.

I started college in 95, so yeah I was a fan when he was here. I don't have a negative opinion on RR. I liked him while he was here and like everyone else at the time didn't think he was ready for the NBA when he submitted his name the first time. Initially, I too wanted him to stay at UK.

But I don't think you can find one instance of him saying, "Rick forced me out of UK". That's the point I wanted to make in my second (and third) post. The reason he didn't come back wasn't because he forced out, but because he chose to leave. He could have walked on and still played, but he didn't want to do that. Which is why I get upset when we talk about him. He could have been part of a Champ team at UK, but instead he chose to leave.

What I get frustrated with is that when UK fans get something about the team to chew on they tend to blow it out of proportion and then it becomes "fact". Which in turn makes logical UK fans look bad. Rick Pitino isn't my favorite person in the world, but in this case he was blamed for something he really couldn't do a whole lot about. He did what he thought was best in offering Mercer the scholarship in hopes that RR would get drafted.

Obviously no one at UK had a problem with RR, he's coaching with Travis, a former teammate, still friends with the program as he has often been in Lexington and even back then Rick helped him get drafted by the Rockets *whether it was the wrong or correct choice for the rockets not withstanding. It's a shame that he didn't work out in the NBA cause dude he had great hands on defense.

Maybe my initial post was too strong in its wording and my second too brief (I will admit I was at work and splitting my attention).

I don't think we necessarily disagree about RR in general :)

p.s. Thanks for not making this a flame situation though (lord knows there's enough of that going on!)

For 1 game, Rodrick Rhodes was a basketball God .... I still recall him flustering MJ on defense and on multiple possessions.... for 1 game.

    One game?

    Try one quarter.

or more like one moment in time.

I think that was a Sunday NBC game perhaps? That was the highlight of his life, I bet.

Remind me to never mix it up with Hayesfan.

I did not. Thanks for the link. Great read. Thats what Gillispie is all about. The work ethic he instills is so refreshing. Once the kids buy in the results will come. Obviously they haven't adjusted as quickly as the Aggies. But like Alex Legion hinting at transferring so did Acie Law. Once they put that hurdle behind them its elite 8 minimums on a regular basis.

One's playing career does not necessarily reflect one's coaching ability.
