Not a big deal. I am wrong more often than I care to admit. This is my last post in this thread because of the one thing that I do agree on. Coach K coming to the Rockets is the biggest of long shots. I just can't imagine him leaving his kingdom at Duke.
I would love Coach K to be the headcoach of the Rockets. Maybe he could get Brand to come as well. DD
Just exactly how do you know that Kenny Smith does not have the basketball knowledge of Coach K? Have you ever sat down to discuss basketball with either Coach K or Kenny Smith? Didn't think so. I am not sure whether or not Kenny has more or less basketball knowledge than K but I am not going to speculate that he doesn't just because I have nothing to base this on. I would gamble however that Kenny knows more about the NBA game than K. Don't base your opinions on Kenny's basketball knowledge by some of the cracked up things he says on TNT. He is just trying to be funny.
a funny thread on insidecarolina on this very subject: http://insiders5.ezboard.com/finsid...sageRange?topicID=48973.topic&start=1&stop=20
Remember Calipari? He probably did more with less than Coach K in the NCAAs, and still got killed in the NBA. How about Pitino? Two journeys into the NBA from college and never got it really done. Now a big success again in college. Carlesimo got choked. Pitino said it best when he admitted the college game is vastly different. The scheduling, the road trips, the professional & corporate pressures, the camaraderie, the money, etc. Coach K has a great record and not to say college coaches can never succeed in the NBA, but I think good NBA asst coaches are in a better position to take over than a college coach.
Some of you seem to be forgetting that when Coach K took over Duke was NOT the powerhouse they are now. He created it. If you don't like Duke or just don't think he'd ever leave his current job - fine. But undermining his coaching ability? Please.
coach k is a great college "coach". i don't think anyone will dispute you on that. however you have to understand that success as a good college coach depends on two things 1) actual coaching abilities and 2) maybe more importantly recruiting ablities. right now and for the last maybe 10 years, k has been the best recruiter in the nation and it has even been close. he basically got whatever player he has wanted. not to say he isn't a great coach, but a) there is evidence that he has not developed fully his talent (see nba success and lack of development of numerous post mcdonalds all-americans) and b) that his college ablities would not translate well to the nba games. bob knight is a genius went it comes to actually coaching, but do you think his "style" would translate well to the nba? k's his prodigy and while not the same level of "style" he still has similiarities. could he adjust? "maybe, maybe no". i just don't think it's a given
