    1. all players will tell you the best way to get into basketball shape is to PLAY basketball.....for right now letting them play a lot won't kill them, but actually help them round into shape, its 3 games into the season and even if these guys have been training and had a ore-season, they are still not in game shape completely.

    2. How can Adelman find who fits best with the stars if he sits them down? He's trying to throw diff guys in there around his star players to find who works well with who, let him figure it out.

    3. Once guys are in shape and the rotation is set, they should be running on all cylinders and blowing out the teams they should be blowing out and that's when the extra rest comes in. Its also easier to give guys practice days off later in the season because they won't lose much conditioning compared to right now.

Yao cutting back practices makes a TON of difference, much more than letting him practice like always and limiting his games to 32 mins. Why? Because in a game there's a lot of stop and go, he's not constantly running or jumping for those 40 mins, some of that is watching fast breaks, setting picks, watching ron or tmac make their move, etc...all that may add up to almost 10 mins.

Also, you can't limit his practice AND limit his time in games also. He'll lose his conditioning that way. We can't expect him to rest in practice, rest during games, then have him come out and play at a really high level for an extended time in a tough game. He won't be able to because his body won't be conditioned to do it. He has to go hard in one or the other. Practice is harder for him because he husually has a team practice for over an hour and also does his own workouts for more than an hour as well. That's hourS of working out most days. Cutting back hours reduced a lot of pounding, but he still stays in shape by playing big minutes in games.

I'm glad I'm not the only one concerned over this. It's on the GM or owner to step in and put their foot down, because I don't think Yao will survive the season at this rate.

Didn't Adleman say that he was going to rest Yao by not playing him much in practice? A few hours of practice missed is more "wear and tear" saved then a few extra minutes in games.

Besides, the Rockets need Yao to win these games, would people complain if the Rockets lost and Yao didn't play much?

    RV6, good analysis.

    I concur.

Moreover, the star players all have their voices and if they feel like they're being pushed past their limit then I'm sure they will speak up and let Coach know. They know their bodies way better than any of us do; let them and Coach decide the minutes that they play.

also, if his stress fracture was due to overtraining, it came from his practices, not playing 40 mins a game. Why do players practice a move or a rebounding technique 70 or 80 times in practice? Over two practices, thats over a hundred times. Why? So they can go out and do it only 10 or 20 times in a game. So again, it makes much more sense to limit his practice than games time.

i'm not saying you should let him play 48 mins just because he can. I understand there's always a chance that extra minute of PT is when he'll roll his ankle or break his foot, but that's sports. All players run that risk from the first minute to the last. Those precautions will come later. Right now its about setting a rotation and getting off to a good start.

Dorsey isn't going to play a big part of the rotation this season, to give him 10 mins a game right now just delays the core from building chemistry. He'll have garbage time once this team is rolling. Right now, althought they're 3-0, they haven't exactly dominated anyone. IT should not have taken 3 and a half quarters for them to blow out the Thunder. Chemistry is more important right now than resting guys 3 games into the season.

And it's against a medicore team Thunders. Rox has indeed wasted a good opportunity of training Dorsy as Yao's substitute pending the arrival of Mutumbo. Its common sense to keep your Big Three as fresh as possible come playoff time and the coach should make use of similar opportunities as many as possible.
