Shaq can be lazy in the offseason, but he's never struck me as one of those guys who is just there to collect a pay check or count stats.

I'd agree that his ego is huge, though. As for inflated? Maybe. Obviously, he hasn't come to terms with his declining skills. But he certainly was the best player in the league for quite a while. When you think you're the best...and you are the best...your ego may be large, but it isn't inflated ;).

Wow, I know Shaq is competitive and all. But Yao's quotes and his quotes, wow, show you how different they are, one of them has more class.

''Every time I score on him I was happy like a kid, like a kid getting candy on Halloween because it's really too hard to score on him, too hard. He's just great.''

yao finds it hard to get candy on Halloween??

LOL probably because he is 7'6

I think Shaq is praising Yao in the most respective way.

Shaq's not going to give up too much now. He's thinking about a 7 game series in June. Of course, if Miami doesn't get better, they won't make it to June. Right now, Chicago, Washington, New Jersey, and Cleveland are all significantly better than them.

''He's pretty much the same, just big, 7-6,'' O'Neal said. ''He's just doing what he's supposed to do.''

I don't see the big deal. Shaq thinks it's a non-story when Yao does well because Yao's a great big man. Nothing new happened in the Miami game.

i'm dissapointed with shaq. usually he always has a way to praise a guy and at the same time either praise himself as well or remind people how many championship rings he has, but i guess this time he was just shocked out of anything to say. i mean its basically an empty quote. it didnt mean anything. he mustve really didnt expect yao to dominate him so quickly and that bad.

Of course, Shaq would never have sniffed college ball if he weren't a 7-foot freak of nature. At least Yao has a good enough shot to make you think he has actually skills. Pretty hypocritical of the Big Aristotle.

The most important reason that I became a fan of Yao Ming is because of his personality. He is really a great man with a great sense of humor.

You must mean after they've had their very first matchup right? Shaq was making fun of Yao's name and made some racial chinese slurs before their first matchup.

I don't see the big deal either. Yao and Shaq have faced many times. Yao isn't a young kid anymore and he's been a leading All-Star vote getter a few times. Why would Shaq feel compelled to hand over the honor to Yao as the league's best center? Would anyone go to Kobe and ask him if Lebron's the league's best player and expect him to say yes?
