Don't look now, but it might be time to panic. The national sports writers are smelling blood, and it's six months too early! Texas Hold'em: Rockets, Mavs, Spurs occupy top three spots
doubt we'll be tops after losing to the mavs but probably still top 5. the hornets looking tough though
I personally think that it is great we're being recognized, but it's so much better to fly under the radar...
I've never understood this line of reasoning and I never will. What exactly do you gain from people ignoring the team? Is it because the team will stay hungry because everyone thinks they're underdogs? Don't you think the confidence gained by being consistently called the best in the league helps a team's swagger just as much? The Spurs have really benefitted from flying under the radar It doesn't much matter what the media says. You think the other teams in the league don't know how good we are? We know it, they know it, might as well get some well-deserved recognition in the process. It's better than being disrespected.
I can see where you are coming from, but I have just noticed that the Rockets don't respond well to media pressure. I love that we are getting clout, but I think its early in the season and we have a lot of proving left to do. Towards the end of the year last year, we got alot of good press, TMAC had alot of pressure to get out of the first round last year and openly admitted that he felt the whole NBA was watching him and his strength to carry to the team. That ultimately led to a letdown. Again, I do see your perspective and I personally like that we're getting recognized. I just would like to see that recognition occur when the Rockets really have proven themselves.
It has been a chronic condition of Houston pro athletes for decades. As soon as ANY of our guys in any sport starts to believe his own press hype, the fecal matter collides with the wind generator. I think this is one of the reasons why Houston has always really loved guys like Jon Barry, Battier, Scola, Yao.. Dunta, DeMeco, Johnson.. Biggio, Bagwell, Berkman.. Earl, (H)Akeem, Bum, Rudy, Muchak and Matthews.. Just a tiny fraction, I know, but it's guys like this who touch a nerve here, people this town can identify with, hard-hat and lunch-pail guys, who know that working hard and taking their responsibilities seriously are the keys to success.. guys like those above spent most, if not all, of their careers embodying the ideals of work ethic, humility, and perseverance. Even then, these guys could occasionally be seduced by their glowing press reports of how wonderful they were.. and as soon as it would start, the wheels would either begin to squeak, or fall off entirely. I think that's why some people in this town prefer it when our teams are successful, but do not receive more than a modicum of press hype. We want them to do well, but just as much, we want them to remain hungry.
Not if Rockets win the rest of the games this week. Losing to Mavs on the road is no big deal, they might drop to 2 or at most 3.
I know the Internet discourages this, but please, please, read before you write. I'll spare you the joke about hello and welcome to last week. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=137103 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=137108
