This sucks; we have the most desirable job and we are getting the leftovers. Carroll and Les blew this one.

relax, it's not the end of the world. I'm still waitng for more conformation other than cnnsi.

Dunleavy and Van Gundy are still out there. David Aldridge says Van Gundy is the perfect fit. I trust aldridge more than any other analyst so i'm not worried.

Something Codell pointed out has got me thinking.

"once management (Detroit Pistons) determined Brown would take the job, Carlisle was let go......"---"the Pistons would not have fired Carlisle for anyone other than Brown"

This appears to be the events:

    Friday 5-23-Rudy gets dismissed

    5-27 - Brown quits '76ers

Was brown leaving based on a meeting he had with Detroit - or Rudy being fired- I do not know what prompted Brown quitting.

Thurs 5-29-Les Alexander and Carroll Dawson meet Brown and Family

Sun June 1 - Brown signs contract with Detroit Pistons-?CNNSI reported at 11:23 a.m. Eastern

The point- Did Larry Brown and Joe Dumars already have a "behind the outhouse deal" in place before Brown met Crroll and Les and played the Rockets???????

    Am I off base ?

    Thank you Codell....

CNNSI article is a joke. Why does Brown want to be paid only $5M per year? His contract at 76ers is $7M per year for the last two years. Rudy T's contract was $6M a year. On this aspect along, I trust Clutch's resource much more than CNNSI'. $8M+ sounds about the right amount that Detroit would ofter to Brown if they really want him.

The media mess is getting absurd with the NBA coaching vacancies. Various sources seem to contradict each other. ESPN is printing and retracting articles every hour. I am going to wait for a press conference to believe any of the media.

Screw Larry Brown. Let's ink Rick Carlisle to a 6 year contract but only if he brings his assistant Keith O'Neill with him.

Rick Carlisle is mainly an X's and O's coach, while O'Neill is the true defensive genius.

I have been wondering about all of these things. NO LARRY BROWN/DUMARS MEETING HAS BEEN REPORTED!
Have they only talked on the Phone ?
What happened to the statement that Larry Brown would make up his mind on Monday?
I wonder what sort of Contract did LES offer Larry Brown?
If the two clubs offered comparable contracts and Larry Brown goes to Detroit then he must not want to be bothered with all the teaching that he needs to do here in Houston. He wants to take on an EASY job! ala Jackson Bulls/Lakers and Riley Lakers.

Are you kidding? Where are the Jordan, Shaq/Kobel, and Magic/Kareem on Pistons rooster? You can't win titles without superstars.

LB loves Tayshaun Prince and guys like him (tall versatile players like Jared Jefferies). Also, he has the 2nd draft pick to pick up either Darko or CArmello so he has a shot at rebuilding with already young and proven team.

Also, this is the East. No other teams besides the Nets are really contenders for the title. Whereas the West has the likes of the Mavs, Lakers, Kings and almost the entire western conference. Brown knows that he can make it to the NBA championship with a team like Detriot and the east's competetion.

    Also,

don't think that the Pistons don't have talent, they do!

Ben Wallace, Richard Hamilton, Chauncy Billups, Chucky Atkins, Tayshaun Prince + Darko or Carmello.

Thats a boat load of talent.

the pistons have talent just like the pacers, suns and about 5 other teams, that doesn't make them a champion. The best they can do is get to the finals. They would get killed. New Jersey to me is the only team that has a shot at making the finals worth watching because Jason Kidd makes everyone around him so much better.

Steve Francis/Yao Ming - this combination has a hell of a lot better chance of competing for a championship in 3 years then say Rip Hamilton/Darko

On ESPNews they just said that "sources" claimed the LB and Pistons deal is already signed. However, the Pistons themselves and LB say otherwise.

it's sad that they would keep doing this 'on and off' again thing...if it's true then announce. if it's not then squash it. but i think the rockets should just move on. this is getting ridiculous how we are hanging onto every word that comes out about detroit and larry brown. bring me JVG, dunleavy or carlisle and end the headaches...

perhaps brown signed with the pistons because he wants to stay in the east. i mean it's almost guaranteed he'll get to the playoffs and very likely a top 4 seed. in houston he'll probably get to the playoffs but lets face it - we are no where near the top 3 of spurs, lakers, and kings.
