http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writers/dr_z/12/14/ranks.week15.part3/index.html 31. Houston Texans (1-12) That final field goal attempt was the best hook shot I've seen since the days of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. They've been lifted out of the cellar because at least they're competitive, they try, they've got some life to them, not like that collection of misfits that follows. 32. Detroit Lions (4-9) Forget the record. This team has given up. They don't try, they're stupid, they've got their bags packed. How many passes can you drop? How many missed tackles can you get away with? The Pack has a third and seven in OT, and Favre throws a little swing pass to William Henderson, and you'd think it was Gale Sayers they were trying to tackle instead of a 250-pound fullback. Flop flop go the tacklers. First down. Next play Green Bay gets into field goal range because Shaun Rogers, the Lions' superstar DT, grabs Sam Gado out of bounds and gives him the heave-ho, which costs them 15. Their coaching isn't much better. Let's go back to the end of regulation time. Green Bay has a third-and-16 on its own 31 at the two-minute warning. Favre runs for seven and stays in bounds. Detroit has two timeouts left. The Packers let the clock run all the way down to 1:13, then they punt. The Lions run twice, pass, call timeout ... they don't know what the hell to do. They could have gotten the ball in good shape with about 1:40 and one timeout left. Do you know how many plays you can call in 1:40? It's a cinch they don't. Nah, let's not bother. We'll take our chances with the coin toss, and then go up against Favre, in Green Bay, in OT. What a team!
Not that there was much there to destroy when he began, but he's definitely crap-canned what was left. The guy is a draft day nincompoop, and it will be a miscarriage of justice if he ever gets a front office job in the NFL again. In other words, watch Bob McNair hire him for the Texans!
The Lions are packing it in? They went to overtime against GB. The Texans may not have quit, but they are losing a lot of games that they could have easily won. I'm just not sure the games against the Rams, Ravens, and Titans don't give you at least a consideration of their desire for the number 1 pick. They both suck though.
