Bill Russell also played in a league that had only 8 teams in it much harder to win in this era

No Hall of Fame for Horry. He was a good role-player, but I'd say there's over 100 good role-players in the league every year. The only reason anyone would want to see him there is for the statistical oddity of his 7 rings. But, those teams could have won those championships with, say, Sean Elliot in Horry's spot. Horry was good at picking teams. He's like the stock trader who achieves guru status by going on a hot streak, before being victim of falling to the mean. The only difference is Horry retired before he could fall to the mean.

16 years of NEVER LOSING in the FIRST ROUND.
I know a group of fans here just hate hearing that.

He was the best role player of all time.
When a team needed a steal, a block, a rebound, or a game winning shot, he was there.
His only fault is that he didn't play up to his potential in the regular season.

Would you have rather us picked Harold Miner?

Horry believes that he belongs. That's why he's won all those rings.
This is the mindset of a champion, a hero, a legend!

    here's an old article:
    http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/s_346004.html

    A sampling:

    # He has made more 3-pointers in the NBA Finals than anybody in league history.

    # In 1995, with Houston, he set a Finals record with seven steals in a game. The same year, he hit a game-winning 17-footer against Phoenix in the Western finals and a victory-clinching three against Orlando in the Finals. He also found Mario Elie in the corner for the series-winner in Game 7 against Phoenix and neutralized Dennis Rodman in a series vs. the Spurs.

    # In 1997, with the Lakers, Horry set a playoff record for most 3-pointers made without miss (seven) in Game 2 against Utah.

    # In 2002, with the Lakers, he made a series-winning 3-pointer against Portland with 2.1 seconds left. The same year, he sank one of the more dramatic shots in NBA history, snatching a loose ball from beyond the top of the key and swishing a game-winning three with 0.6 seconds left in Game 5 of the Western finals against Sacramento.

Big Shot Bob has reached the playoffs in each of his 13 seasons and will be gunning for his sixth championship ring tonight.

The Hall of Fame always has cut slack for winners. K.C. Jones, of the Celtics dynasty, was inducted as a player with career averages of 7.4 points and 4.3 assists, not to mention a 38.7 career field-goal percentage.

So, why not Horry? For those who bother to tune in tonight, he's the guy to watch when the game's on the line.

Wow, this article sways my opinion somewhat.

I'd say no way but the dude was a major contributor to each of his championships ...all 7 of them. Yes, he was on great teams ...but he's part of what made the teams great.

Listening to 610, they said he shouldn't be inducted ...but it IS appropraite the have a special Horry display there for him. I might have to agree with that.

Is the Hall of Fame for just the best players or anyone who has had a major impact on the game of basketball?

Horry did have an impact and I'm glad he brought up Rodman too.

Do players who contribute to winning (Horry, Rodman) not get in cause they weren't prolific players on offense?

Horry/Rodman had to play defense against some of the best players the nba had to offer.

Remember when the Lakers beat the Blazers and Spurs? Horry's assignments were Pippen/Sheed and Tim Duncan.

When Horry was in Houston, in 95, with a hurt Herrera and no Otis Thorpe, he had to guard Barkley

Rodman had to d up and outboard Shaq and Malone.

They let Dick Vitale in the HOF!

And he's not even close to being the worst inductee!

Horry has superior credentials a lot of the people already in.

Initially, I would say no, but...I remember those old Celtic teams from 60s and that team sent over half of their players into the HOF, some of which didn't even have HOF numbers. But, they are in there.

how many players in nba history have 6 championship rings?

his finals scoring total is above most hall of fame players and his playoff scoring total is respectable.

he's not getting in on the first ballot. eventually, he will / should get in.

not only that, its no coincidence he won his rings with the three best big men of his career, hakeem, shaq, duncan, and he just happen to be a perfect wingman for them, espeically shaq and duncan as the league moved to more mobile lighter fowards so horry would no longer have to contend with anthony mason

it shows what a good player Horry is to be able to adapt to different coaches and lineups and positions.

Remember he was a small forward in the beginning.

being in the right place at the right time, also means executing at the right time and making the correct decisions.

Remember Mario's 3? Who passed him the ball?

The funny thing is, if Horry had given 100% effort all the time, he probably would've put up the numbers to justify putting him in the HOF.

I've heard this argument before, but I still think it's weird. If it was so much easier to win back then, why was it ALWAYS the Celtics winning?

    If there was a HOF for role-players - he'd be a shoe-in.

I mean, Robert Horry is famous.

Has a role-player ever gotten into the HOF?
