because no one wanted him enough to make an attractive offer to the Texans. they wanted to trade him before bringing in Schaub...his name was rumored on the block for weeks. there were no takers. now he's a backup against a relatively young QB who is just a season removed from being a Pro Bowler. in a place where he's not brought in to compete for a starting job at all. no way a team takes on the kind of contract he had for that kind of player.
It was because of his contract. Did you want them to "restructure" it while he was here at the end, then try to trade him?
tinman, how about the Los Angeles Clippers? Their lone appearances in the playoffs were the only times they were good. We took them out, just like we'll take out the Panthers. AGAIN. Funny. The Texans' management didn't think their offensive line was porous... they decided to get rid of Carr instead...
I can't believe anyone would be defending this guy.....he was the number 1 pick and now the only job he can get is a BACKUP QB, to Jake Delhoume..... ROFLOL !!! The Texan's will be better this year and maybe Carr can get a fresh start. DD
One of these days I am going to write a nasty letter to the NFL and have them start stats on what offensive lineman was the one to release his DE to allow a sack. Only then will the true story of the sack be told from the eyes of the... oh, what the hell, it's not even worth it... he's gone now.
EXACTLY !!! Some of the sacks are because of a bad line, some of the sacks are because he is a bad QB. DD
wow, so he signed to be a backup. Probably a good move on his part, I don't think he has it to be a starter in this league.
I really can't give a percentage. There is no way to accuratly do that. Lots of times the line just fell apart, but lots of times he held the ball too long, or failed to simply throw it away. What does it matter, he is gone, the rest of the NFL had their chance at him and only backup positions were available, that speaks volumes to anything you or I could say. DD
John McLain reported after the 2005 season that the Texans believed that Carr was responsible for over 1/4 of the sacks. The real problem to me wasn't that..but that he was making incredibly bad/stupid mistakes even when there wasn't pressure.
That TITANS' game sorta started it all, MadMax. Those were blatantly obvious... TRIPLE-COVERED pass into interception. Well, DaDa, you can STILL talk about a player, whether with or without the Texans, here in the BBS, but please don't say "what does it matter..." it makes it seems like you never cared or never will care. Let it be in the correct form, mods, please.
No no Swoly, I don't mind the discussion, I just think Carr has been beaten to death in the NFL, partly his fault, partly the lines. And, I am truly frustrated that the team reached this conclusion one year too late. But, I am happy that the Texan's finally made the call, released him, and got someone new in here to take the reigns. Carr was a class act in Houston, but he never felt like a leader or a winner...he was too laid back for my taste..... DD
No, the Cleveland Browns game in 2004 started it all. That's when the honeymoon was officially over. That' why it was so frustrating for many of us to see them commit to DC for the long term. Actually that wasn't triple-coverage vs. the Titans...it was quadruple coverage. One of the worst decisions I've ever seen by a QB in my life.
Speaking of the Browns....Hey Bernie Kosar was a starting QB with the Browns back in the day and then became a backup QB for the Cowboys where he ended up with a ring. Carr might just have the same chance an opportunity. Carr=Kosar
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4693416.html Carr signs two-year deal as backup with Panthers By JOHN MCCLAIN Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle After visiting Carolina and Seattle this week, former Texans quarterback David Carr has agreed to a contract with the Panthers to back up Jake Delhomme. The Charlotte Observer reported that Carr’s deal is for two years. Carr replaces Chris Weinke, who was released after a season in which he played poorly and was 1-2 as a starter after Delhomme suffered a thumb injury. The Panthers also brought in Joey Harrington for an interview before deciding on Carr. The Texans play at Carolina this season. Although Carr will go to camp as the backup, because Delhomme was inconsistent last season and often under fire from fans and media, there already is speculation in Charlotte that Carr could push for a starting job. Once the Texans decided to go in another direction from Carr, the first pick in franchise history and a five-year starter, they traded for Atlanta quarterback Matt Schaub. Carr became an unrestricted free agent after he asked for and got his release from the Texans. Carr started 75 games for the Texans and won 23 of them, including one in which he came off the bench to pull out a victory. He was sacked 249 times. Last season, his first and only season under coach Gary Kubiak, Carr completed a career-high 68.3 percent of his passes. The Panthers believe Carr will play better when he gets an opportunity because they'll provide him with solid pass protection.
the texan's former starter becomes a backup QB. the texan's sign Atlanta's backup QB to become a starter.
