yes, I have a friend in Denver who was looking at plasmas, the plasmas that they sell at the stores have to be approved for high altitude. the crappier ones make a buzzing sound at high altitudes.
A heads up: The latest issue of Consumer Reports has a pretty in depth look at what to look for when buying an HDTV.
I'm hoping the writer tried to exaggerate the distance for effect, to support the reason not buying an extra large screen tv. But it looks like a mistake in math more than anything (should be 10.5 feet as was pointed out earlier). 102 feet is 34 yards! Thats like Imax theater distance. I noticed no one helped out on my questions, thanks a lot by the way....lol. I've narrowed my search down big time though. Looks like LCD's the way to go...
Im actually going out today to get an HP 37" LCD at Best Buy. On sale for $1,099. Consumer reports gave it good ratings. I was going to get a 42" HP Plasma, but the CR ratings and other reviewes seemed to indicate that its hard to good anything more than an average picture through standard definition. the 42" Plasma was $1199 at Circuit City.
avoid HP plasmas. The only good plasmas are Panasonic, Pioneer, Hitachi, Samsung, Fujitsu, Runco. the 37inch LCD sounds like a good deal.
Get a DLP. You could go BIGGER for less money. Example: $1500 could get you a 40" LCD, a 42" Plasma, or a 57" DLP.
C I picked up a 23" Samsung LCD after doing a ton of comparative shopping and checking online for reviews. The picture is amazing (had been on both of my Samsung HD sets), adn the price wasnt too bad. before you make your final decision, check and see what you think about the Samsung panels, I saw nothing but good reviews all over for them, and not as good for the HPs....but of course ymmv
