Yes, I am reacting to this situation, or is it Colombine, or maybe any of the other similar situations. I have been an advocate of strong gun controls for YEARS......just look it up. Great that you can make fun or light in a situation as tragic as this.. DD
for one, if classes are actually cancelled, you won't have an auditorium full of students to be there like sitting ducks. i'm with you with not blaming school officials, but the damage could have been minimized. but who knows, maybe he goes somewhere else.
This is the MADDENING part....if they had a shooting and had NOT captured the gunman.....they should have immediatly shut down the school. DD
the problem is not gun laws the problem is America. This country is a melting pot of all races/culturs and we are too sensative and understanding. Look the other "developed countries" don't have this crap they just have crimes of passion which this would of been if it were not in America. This punk I am sure either got this idea from our culture pumping up these things or his parents did a crapy job raising him like most americans do. The last thing we need are more restrictions so only the crazy idiots who want to cause harm are holding guns. The other alternative is turning this place into a government controlled lockdown nation like Great Briton, I would not be willing to make that call.

They probably were. If he enters the first dorm and shoots a bunch of people it would be easy to hide the handguns and get out and go to another building. While the police are investigating the first scene he opens up at the second location. Kind of like an arsonist starting a small fire. Once the fire engines leave for that, he starts a bigger fire near the fire station.
I agree. I think America has a streak of violence built into her. Americans are just more violent in nature. Take for example tv shows and movies that depict graphic violence. There is no outcry over that. What the entertainment media portrays in violence just dulls all the youth to crime. No longer is it seen as ultra taboo, it just seems like an ordinary thing to many people. Once you can visualize something in your mind, it is so much easier to carry out in real life. In Europe, these depictions of violence are not there. Instead they are outraged when they see it on tv. The US has a taboo of sexual content in entertainment, and Europe has a taboo on violence. Another point, is that the founding of this country was based on violent means. If you take away the guns, the criminals will start killing people with knives and baseball bats.
well, the people i know directly or 3rd party so far at the main campus are ok.. not sure about some of the guys I work with by video during class. I guess the percentages work in everyone's favor if things are unknown. The crazy winds out on the east coast prevented choppers from taking people to hospitals, so they all had to be rushed by ambulance... terrible day he picked for that reason, too. (winds are 50-60 mph in the DC area, possibly worse down in blacksburg)
wikipedia says there is now a consensus of 33 dead and 27 injured from the university as well as all major media outlets.
Wikipedia is probably less accurate than any of the news outlets would be by themselves. I wouldn't rely on it.
The problem isn't America being violent. The problem is America constantly needing to understand "why" something happens and then continuing to find any excuse for this type of behavior. Columbine was the fault of Marilyn Manson and video games. They killed because they were outcasts, etc. Everything has to have some type of "why" nature we fail to make people take responsibility for their actions. Sometimes there is no why. Sometimes people are just stupid and do crazy things. The problem is that they haven't been held responsible for anything in their lives and they learn that they can't control themselves because it's always someone else's fault. Rich people keep me down. White people keep me down. _____ is trying to ______. It's how people are brought up and when you hear it enough, you start to believe that you don't' control your actions but someone else is responsible. That's why events like today occur.
33 is the number I've had for a while also. I've read at minimum 17 hospitalized, so 27 injured is easy to believe. btw, afaik, no one killed themselves jumping out of windows..only injured themselves. But feel free to correct if you know otherwise.
Oh my goodness. I finally have found somebody that thinks the same thing I do. I agree with you completely. I think that is a big problem, people not taking responsibility for their own actions. It always the music, the movies, my friends, or some other BS.
Or maybe it is simplier math: -Every so often humans go insane and delusional. (this is higher in males BTW, if you want a commonality in most of these type events--not lead by too many girls/women) -We have lots of images of carnage (video games, movies) prevalent in our youth culture so that when persons go delusional/insane they have something real bad to gravitate to. -We do a poor job of recognizing mental health issues and poor resources until it is too late. -We have a very big population. -Access to multiple death vehicles is not difficult. Solutions are much more complicated.
People have been going crazy and killing people forever, the difference is that now the technology has gotten to the point where the damage is far worse. DD
