This is beyond horrible. The first place I remember living was Blacksburg, near the Virginia Tech campus, where my father taught engineering. Last summer my mother and I went back through to see it. Same small peaceful town nestled in the beautiful green hills, same classy university. About the last place you would expect something like this to happen. My father's old colleagues, or which few of them still teach there now, had moved to Norris Hall. Last summer my mother and I wandered around looking for familiar names and faces on the wall plaques. I can't imagine it turning into... what it just did. It's an older looking building with narrow corridors. There probably wasn't anywhere to run.
yeah...the Luby's one in Killeen, Texas in the early 90's was previously regarded as the deadliest shooting. 23 people died.
From what I've heard yes it is. The shooting at the Kileen Lubys was 23 people. The low number on this shooting is 22 and the high is 32.
This is horrible. I feel so bad for all those directly affected by this. Things like this really make you stop and think. This could happen anytime, anywhere to anyone. Your whole life can change (or be over) in the blink of an eye.
Well the majority of people in this country are white but yet the the majority of all crime in this country is commited by non-whites. As far as mass shootings go I don't have a statistic but they are all terrible and we should be thinking about these victoms and their families not race relations.
It wasn't completely and blatantly about race, but it was said in a way, that I, as a white male, was offended by it. Basically, what she said after listing all these shootings committed by Asians and one Algerian was, "Do you feel like these people are being alienated to the point of committing these crimes?", "Is there something pertaining to their culture that causes them to lash out more quickly than others?", etc. That kind of talk. It just goes to show how savagely people think when they're allowed.
Was the shooter trying to instill fear in a wider audience of people, like college students all over the US? I don't think so- he's dead and so far not affiliated with any group that would conduct more attacks. Was he trying to achieve some political goal? I doubt it.
it doesnt have anything to do with it, nor does religion. Crazy is crazy, psycho is psycho. i was referring to the comments that the reporter the other guy referenced.
I have a good friend whose daughter is a freshperson at VT. When I first heard about this on the news, I called him both at work and on his cell-- couldn't reach him; I was a little bit freaked. I spoke with him about 2 PM and all is well with her, thank God. Prayers for all the other victims....
He was responding to what some lady said on CNN. He wasn't trying to bring race into it or claiming that being white leads to mass murdering.
amen to that, everyone call your loved ones life can be taken from you at any moment in this crazy world we live in.
