I don't agree with you johnrox......in fact, I'm completely on the other side of the fence with regards to blame. I'd like to think that is because I know there are policemen and school administrators whose lives are every bit as ruined as the parents of some of those dead children. They will spend the rest of their lives thinking, "what if I had done this," or "what if I had done that." --partly out of human nature, but most assuredly influenced by opinions such as yours. Still, I lashed out at you when you're really trying to do the same thing I'm trying to do.........make sense out of all of this. I'm sorry I did that...........but I still wish those people didn't have to hear your opinion.
It goes both ways though. If people didn't pay money to watch violent movies and play violent video games those wouldn't be made.
have y'all read the guy's plays??? http://news.aol.com/virginia-tech-s...ichard-mcbeef-cover-page/20070417134109990001
for an english major, his writing is pathetic. and some of the information from the media does not make sense. He filed the serial number off the gun, perhaps to ditch evidence, BUT decides to put the recipts in his backpack?
I understand, but questioning the events and decisions made (which is one of the things I think you are speaking of; if not I apologize) isn't necessarily done simply to assign blame. I, for example, sincerely believe that a better system of communication needs to be in place for campuses such as this. I have believed this long before yesterday. However, this incident shows (IMO) how such systems are useful. Keep in mind I simply can't comprehend the logic that a shooting on a college campus (or any campus or institution such as this) could not result in a campus-wide action; regardless, it was the kind of thing where a better alert system could have possibly saved lives. IMO this should be pointed out. As such, the people who are saying 'they did the right thing' and 'there's no point in bringing it up' are doing a disservice, in my mind. I thought I'd heard that such a thing happened with UT after the tower shootings; some sort of better PA system put into place? I'm not sure but I would hope that that kind of progress could somehow be made, if for nothing more than to help curb the damage from some sort of tragedy such as this.
Want to know something really creepy? I knew a guy exactly like this kid during my first two years at OU. It was this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joel_Henry_Hinrichs_III The people on our floor used to call him "Abe" because he had a beard like Abraham Lincoln and no one knoew him well enough to know his actual name.
It seems that very anti-social people are the ones that 'blow up' and do these kinds of things...too much repressed feelings/anger that builds up and all just 'comes out' at once, overwhelming the person and causing him to go on these mass shootings? That's why its never good to repress your feelings..always let them out in a healthy way!
I can't believe this is still in our Hangout. Please don't taint it with SERIOUS STUFF. We like to f*c* around here and get stewpid with crazy and funny sh*t. Take your sensitive crap to the D&D, mo fos. I'd hit it. Pics?
I am now convinced the people you talk to are uninformed. Just because they call it that does not mean its right. Do you ever try to back up sources you present here as fact?
Good post Rokkit. I think a lot of people (at least I am) are upset in the fact that the media and monday morning qb's have already reviewed the incident and are swarming like sharks before all the facts are known. Let the investigation take place then improvements and lessons learned can take place. Yesterday at 5PM on CNN, MSNBC, FOX etc is not the time and place to be nitpicking the university and police. Thats my biggest issue
I can only relay to you what I've heard. Then again I'm not sure I should trust your expertise either considering you thought all magazines were rapid loading and don't even follow the safety recomendations of the manufacturer of your own gun.
What shame is there? Its not as though all Koreans are angry loners. As a Korean you should feel no more ashamed by the actions of one madman than caucasions should by the guy who shot up the Amish school.
They still do with the net. It's just that now the pendulum has shifted the other way. Instead of always being directed what to watch, we now have the power to watch viewpoints that are pleasing to us and disregard everything else. I don't think it's surprising when it seems like more attention was focused upon discovering the father of a former Playboy playmate's infant child than Iraq or the political scandals at home. This is the price to pay for our willful neglect of what is happening around us.
