The irony of calling me out for incorrect memory and then telling me Sam's been traded 6 times, when he's only played for 6 teams, is priceless. And just because a player was traded doesn't mean there is anything wrong with him. You have to look at the situations involved. Why did Houston trade him? Because they were trying to get Barkley. Why did Phoenix trade him? To get Kidd. Etc etc. Not because there was anything wrong with Sam. Did he make New Jersey, Milwaukee, and Minnesota instantly better? Yes. All the stats I need are this - Championships in Sam's 3 seasons with the Rockets: 2 Championships in Charles's 4 seasons with the Rockets: 0 Sure, Chuck put up good statistics. He was a statistics player. But he wasn't a chemistry player. He wasn't a guy who could come in and play a role. And he wasn't a guy who had a championship mentality. His work ethic and conditioning were always poor. I do like one of Chuck's quotes though. He said that the definition of a superstar is a guy who "takes, and makes, the big shot". Problem was, Barkley never made that shot when it really counted.
Who's injury? Charles's in 98, when we were an 8th seed? Charles in 00, when he retired? Or are you talking Brent Price? Injuries didn't force the Rockets out in 97, or 99.
Hmmm, lets see: 96-97 Hakeem played in 78 games Barkley 53 Clyde 62 97-98 Rockets Hakeem 47 games Barkely 68 games Clyde - 70 98-99 was the lockout year. It doesn't count. 99-2000 Barkley 20 games, blows out knee.
Regular season injuries prevented them from winning games in the postseason? I remember Hakeem being healthy in the playoffs every one of those seasons. Same with Clyde/Quitten. And in 2000, an overweight, aging Barkley got a knee injury that kept him out for the season? Color me shocked.
Actually what's ironic was, Sam was the only guy I didn't bother looking up. I just went with what you said on the first page of this thread. Irony, indeed. And speaking of selective memory, you shouldn't forget that Cassell and Horry were becoming a worrisome duo after the second chamionship. Underachieving, joking around during losses, etc. I believe, but could be wrong about this, this is the same time where Horry out and said he was only playing because of the opportunity to make millions and that he really didn't enjoy the game. We had a chamionship squad that stopped playing at a high level, those two in particular (at least, in my opinion). That did play a hand in the Barkley trade. Finals Appearances for Sam post-Dream: 0 Evan
Well then you misread, because I never said he was traded 6 times. I said he'd played for 6 teams. Any cites for these wild assertions, or did you just make them up?
I know CB4 always clowns Sam for being *ET*, i know its cold but really Sam is one F&"#ed up looking dude, and so maybe Sam has a little bit of resentment against the round mound of crap.
