Real UE is closer to 17-18%.

It might have been a necessary thing, but you can't expect people to be happy. To those saying normal people aren't smart enough to understand apparently neither were the supposed people who knew what they were doing.

I wonder why people use the rep system to send anonymous messages:

Sent to me through the rep system at 8:25am on 5/27

Don't be afraid man, you can say it here - why hide?

    LOL.

    1. Even if 100% of people say the stimulus package is wasted doesn't mean it is. If you poll teabaggers 90% would say their taxes went up, when the reality is Obama actually cut taxes for most of the American population.

    2. What matters is results. The American economy has been improving, so I guess those stimulus funds must have done something.

    HAHA +1

Exactly what I was thinking when I saw the source. This is the FIRST time I have ever seen CNN report anything negative about our Fearful Leader.

Your logic is flawed. Just because the economy is improving it does not mean it is a direct result of the stimulus money. The economy is a complex beast and anyone claiming to understand it is full of crap. Also anyone claiming the improving economy is a direct result of the stimulus also needs to get their head checked.

So, your contention is that the GAO "needs to get their head checked"?

Then you don't watch CNN much. BTW, the next time Fox reports something positive about Obama will be the first.

Funny thing is that those message aren't really anonymous. People were using rep to send inappropriate messages on another forum, so the admin just flipped a switch in vBulletin and the posters' names showed up next to all the rep that was ever given out. Doh! Let's just say there was some drama.

Oh 3 out of 4 Americans!!!!!

CBO: Stimulus raised GDP 1.7% to 4.5% in Q2

From the Congressional Budget Office: Estimated Impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act on Employment and Economic Output from April 2010 Through June 2010

CBO estimates that in the second quarter of calendar year 2010, ARRA’s policies:

    # They raised real (inflation-adjusted) gross domestic product (GDP) by between 1.7 percent and 4.5 percent,

    # Lowered the unemployment rate by between 0.7 percentage points and 1.8 percentage points,

    # Increased the number of people employed by between 1.4 million and 3.3 million, and

    # Increased the number of full-time-equivalent jobs by 2.0 million to 4.8 million compared with what would have occurred otherwise.

Does that mean anyone claiming that the improving economy is not a direct result of the stimulus also needs to get their head checked?

So funny, the bottom is falling out of the housing market now that the tax breaks are gone. The stock market is floundering, and the economy looks like it's ready for a double dip.

Oh sure the stimulas ran out despite the calls from economists both liberal and conservative to keep the money flowing. Don't take the sick patient of life support.

But the Republicans, in order to gain seats, convinced America that it's best to cut spending in a recession - the opposite of economic theory. And as the economy tanks just in time for them to take control of congress, they'll blame Obama of course.

And when their failed policies lead us to drift on wards for another few years - they will blame Obama. While millions of Americas suffer - they will blame OBama and prevent any kind of stimulus from passing that would help.

Because then they can get rid of OBama in 2012...and then, they can pass some stimulus to make the economy grow.

Brilliant. The Republicans are such better politicians than Dems. No one can hoodwink the biggest share of americans better.

This is what a stimulus is supposed to do in a strong recession...put people back to work.

I have no idea how solid these numbers are. I also wonder what the long term numbers could have been had the money that went to purely political uses had been spent on repairing highways and bridges.

This statement alone exposes that you have no clue of the political environment. The republicans are in SHAMBLES, but yet they are making leaps and bounds. Its not because they are non-democrats or that they have a better plan. Its because the voters are anti-incumbent. Let me say that again. Anti-incumbent. Let me spell that out for you; They are sick of politics of normal. They are tired of parties pointing fingers. They voted in a president who campaigned on change, but realize he is entrenched in more of the same. Once again, the americans are tired of the fingerpointing, both from politicians and fellow Americans. They are tired of party agendas. They want unity, not division.

What money went for purely political uses? My dad's nonprofit got a few million out of it and they used it to open a couple of new headstart centers in Houston and in the Valley.

$150 million for parking at a Little League park in Puerto Rico.

$886,000 for a frisbee golf facility in Austin.

$6 million for snowmaking at a ski resort in Minnesota.

Those are just a few things. Imagine what people like your Dad could have done with that money and how many people could have gotten training for work. Imagine further if, instead of snowmaking in Minnesota, they had begun repairs on the bridges in Minnesota that are in terrible disrepair.

Look at you - you're towing the Republican party line word for word. They got you hoodwinked and you don't even know it.

More of the same? Ha. Obama has altered health care, the financial industry, launched one of the biggest stimulus packages to save us from a great depression and yet the Republicans got people like you thinking it's more of the same!

Classic. This is exactly what I am talking about. Do you know I use to be a moderate until your party screwed up this country so bad it's FUBAR. I mean, it scares me to think what will happen if we hand the reigns back to the fools who got us into this mess.

Talk about more of the same!

Every bill has it's pork, liberal, conservative, or whatever. You have to bribe politcians to get their vote because that's how politics work.

Maybe if your republican buddies put the country ahead of gaining seats that kind of garbage wouldn't be needed.

But tally up all that waste and see how much of the bill it actually made. You got under $157 million out of a $750 billion.

You realize you are complaining about a whopping 0.02% of the bill. Yes, that's right. that means for every 100 dollars spent you are whining about two pennies! Ha - talk about your two cents!

    Give me a break.
