JFK didn't have any "executive" experience either. That turned out pretty well. Lincoln served one term in the house of representative, and 12 years later was elected president after being back in the state legislative body for Illinois. Carter and W. Bush both had executive experience, being governers....look how well that turned out. So what's this executive experience have to do with success? Doesn't seem like a strong correlation to me.
