CNN: N Korea fires at S Korea, injuring 6 soldiers!

I predict that nothing will happen. The risks of engaging in a war with North Korea are too high. And the North knows this and the crazy dictator takes advantage of it by doing things that are normally unthinkable.

Kim Jong Il wants his war before he croaks.

 

South Korea and the USA will issue some strong statements, and make some manoeuvers etc., but unless the North starts an all-out invasion, there will be no war.

 

Interestingly enough, we never actually ended the conflcit in Korea, we're just at a "temporary" cease-fire. Don't think anything wuill come out of this, except maybe a big joint military demonstration. When you have two neighbouring countries with big armies that don't get along, you're bound to have some skirmishes.

 

This is spot on. NK cannot win a war against the combined forces of SK and the US and I strongly doubt that the PRC will step in like 1950 to defend NK. NK knows this but they also know that they can do a ton of damage to SK and Japan in the event of a war and screw up the global economy even more than it already is.

I really don't see any good solutions to NK other than figuring out some way to internally overthrow the Kim regime and given how closed the country is I doubt that is possible.

 

Can both sides wait until I return to the states, for crying out loud?

Why haven't we invaded N. Korea yet?

This would appear true, but what does North Korea have to lose at this point? I dont think they care or will even consider the potential costs of a war.

 

Yes, but South Korea has a lot to lose.

 

N. Korea knows that the U.S. can't afford a 3rd war/pseudo-war/whatever. They know China and Russia will sit by as it ain't their job to protect world democracy for obvious reasons. And Japan won't make a move without the U.S.

Not saying there will be a war but N. Korea is sure having a laugh pushing the right buttons.

 

Has the UN condemned Israel for this attack yet?
