It was the passenger. When he talked to the woman about it, she said the stewardess said she had to ask Smith if she could sit there. And she could fit into her seat too, but even if she was fat enough to need two seats, should she be forced to ask a stranger is she can "spill over" slightly into an empty seat? If someone was occupying that seat, sure, but for an empty seat? It's not like she was so fat she was actually taking up two seats. She could put her armrest down and buckle her seatbelt just like Smith.

If these accounts are all 100% accurate, it sure seems like Southwest screwed up.

However, there are always two sides to a story. The truth is usually somewhere in the middle.

Unless you're an impartial observer who actually witnessed the events, it's hard to really pass judgment.

I have no remorse...he should have bought 2 seats.

From Amsterdam to Houston, I had a HUGE mofo sitting next to me. His elbow and arm were LITERALLY halfway over my seat, I was squished trying to eat with my arms together.

Most uncomfortable flight ever, it was insane. I was sooooo pissed off.

No, I guess you're right. Honestly I just skimmed over the article because the formatting was so bad. If he wanted to go on an earlier flight for which he didn't purchase an extra seat, then that's a different situation.

If he truly couldn't fit in that single seat safely, then I side with Southwest. If he indeed WAS safely secured in his seat, then I side with Smith.

Seems like "he said, she said".

Exactly.. seems like Mr. Smith needs pics or GTFO.

Aren't there any witnesses to this??

Speaking of the Knicks, how many seats would Eddy Curry need to buy on a Southwest flight?

Or are we talking rows in his case?

I'm guessing he looks big and bored.

It says he's played 62 minutes this season over 7 games.

It also says he just got knee surgery, pretty much ruling out any trade possiblities.

He and McGrady should get along well.

According to KS's "smodcast" (a term I absolutely HATE), not only could he fit into his seat with armrests down and seatbelt buckled, when he got up to leave the plane, a couple rows back from him was another fat guy even bigger than Kevin Smith who apparently wasn't asked to leave. This, in addition to other things that did sound fishy, led him to believe that someone just had it out for him (he mentioned that he made kind of a snarky, smartass joke to a guy as he was boarding the plane).

And I, personally, believe everything Smith says. The guy may be a fatty, but he's a pretty honest dude from what I can tell. The guy actually went to a party at a friend's house, sat on the toilet and BROKE IT OFF THE WALL he was so fat. He then preceded to tell that story to all his fans and anyone that would listen. If there was anything in the world that I would try to keep quiet it would be that, but he was honest about it.

Dude rants for a solid hour and a half on his podcast about this whole ordeal. If most of what he says is true (and I believe it is) then Southwest was TOTALLY in the wrong on this one.

I also seriously doubt the guy would be making SUCH a big deal out of the whole thing if he was at fault. I believe him.

As for the Toilet seat, thing....I'm a bigger guy...6'2" 230lbs. (I don't think I'd come close to needing an extra seat, though) The toilet at the house I'm renting is kind of loose in the bolting, and I'm scared that if the landlord (or I, for that matter) doesn't fix it, I could Kevin Smith that thing.

I could totally see it happening.

Nah, not really. Only if the toilet is already suffering from 50 years of life after people or something. Nowadays 230 is average. Now if you are 430 pounds like KS is probably close to than damage will be done...

A friend of mine, a promoter in the area, knows Smith and said that he flys SW from time to time for short trips. Told me he not a primadonna type at least in every instance he's worked with him.

Just for those who were wondering why he was on SW to begin with, think the flight he was taking was a very short one.

Depends if the plane is haunted or not?

    Dear Kevin Smith,

Would you like some cheese with your whine? How about instead of complaining about it, you use it as motivation to get yourself decently healthy again?

Scribo: I'm never going to watch a stupid Kevin Smith film again.

Seriously, I'm having a hard time feeling sorry for this guy. I've been stuck on 4+ hour flights numerous times next to an overweight person, and it sucks. The seats are small enough without having half of your space taken up by someone else.

Kudos Southwest for kicking him off and not screwing the people sitting next to him.

Except that they specifically asked the people sitting next to him if they had a problem with comfort and they both said no. Honestly, for a flight like this, if you can get the arm rests down and buckle up then I don't think the airline has any reasonable grounds to eject you from the flight. KS said on his podcast that he flies with Southwest all the time on short flights and this is the first time they have made a big deal out of it. Honestly, hearing his side of the story, I agree that it sounds like someone exceeded their authority for reasons other than what was given.

I'm 6'0 323ish and carry a good portion of my weight in my gut.....I do fly on occasion. I try to "squish in" as best I can to maximize the comfort of the people sitting next to me.

I'm not going to say I don't have any sympathy or empathy for the people who have to sit next to me. I don't, however, think I should have to pay for an extra ticket...at least not until they start forcing people who shower less frequently than is the American standard, or people who have really poorly behaved kids, bad breath..etc...to purchase extra tickets.

If you ride in a plane you are going to be seated next to a stranger, maybe they will be beautiful and you will fall in love and have an amazing life. Or maybe they will be a big fattie like me and your leg is gonna be numb for 3 hours. Caveat Emptor

P.S- I am gonna sit on the first person who says I should take this opportunity to diet excercise and improve my life. So if you are posting that..please post an address and hours most likely to be home...and I dunno maybe a selection of movies from your DVD collection I can watch while sitting on you and eating a triple bacon cheeseburger.
