My dumba$$ brother in law peppered me last year when we were hunting dove.

It hurt like heck, but I was fine...didn't even need to go to the hospital. No police were involved and other than punching him in the arm when he walked up to me, nothing else happened.

I have a feeling this was much the same thing.

Well, usually I bury the body so it can't be found and then leave a message on their answering machine saying, "We're having a swell time, wish you were with us today! Sorry you couldn't join us." as an alibi. Then again, I use an M-60 to hunt with bullets that kill, since I'm a real man, so I don't have to deal with this "survivor" BS.

    No one? Okay

Austin lawyer shot by Cheney moved from intensive care

Harry Whittington hit by as many as 200 birdshot pellets in Saturday incident
    By Sarah Coppola

    Monday, February 13, 2006

CORPUS CHRISTI — The Austin lawyer who was shot by Vice President Dick Cheney while hunting quail was peppered with as many as 200 birdshot pellets, but the wounds were mostly superficial because of the distance from which they were fired.

Harry Whittington remained in stable condition Monday at Christus Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Memorial. Whittington, 78, a longtime Republican, was hunting with Cheney and several others at a South Texas ranch Saturday evening when he was shot.

Dr. David Blanchard said doctors removed some of the pellets but will leave many alone.

"If they are not life-threatening, you leave them be," said Blanchard, who did not treat Whittington but who briefed reporters at the hospital.

Blanchard would not say whether Whittington had surgery.

Whittington has been moved out of the intensive care unit into a "trauma step-down unit," a wing where trauma patients recuperate, Blanchard said.

200 pellets? Two nights in ICU? Sounds like a little more than just a grazing.

More Questions Raised About Delay in Reporting Cheney Misfire

The more than 18-hour delay in news emerging that the vice president of the United States had shot a man, sending him to an intensive care unit with his wounds, grew even more curious Monday with word from the White House that President Bush had been informed of the incident Saturday but not immediately about Dick Cheney\\\'s role.

Frank James, reporter in the Chicago Tribune\\\'s Washington bureau, put his own spin on it later in the day, asking, \\\"How is it that Vice President Cheney can shoot a man, albeit accidentally, on Saturday during a hunting trip and the American public not be informed of it until today?\\\"

Asked by The New York Times why it did not make the news known, Cheney spokeswoman McBride said, \\\"We deferred to the Armstrongs regarding what had taken place at their ranch.\\\"

Armstrong said later, according to The Associated Press, that everyone at the ranch was so \\\"focused\\\" on Whittington\\\'s health Saturday that it wasn\\\'t until Sunday she called the Caller-Times to report the accident.

In an odd disparity, Armstrong told the Houston Chronicle that Whittington, 78, was \\\"bruised more than bloodied\\\" in the incident and \\\"his pride was hurt more than anything else.\\\" Yet he was airlifted to a hospital and has spent more than a day in an intensive care unit.

The Chronicle also reports Monday that hunting accidents are very rare in Texas. In 2004, it said, the state\\\'s one million-plus hunters were involved in only 29 hunting-related accidents (19 involving firearms), four of which were fatal.

On Sunday, the Chicago Tribune\\\'s James wrote on the Washington bureau\\\'s blog at the newspaper\\\'s site, \\\"When a vice president of the U.S. shoots a man under any circumstance, that is extremely relevant information. What might be the excuse to justify not immediately making the incident public?

Yeah, I'm with you. Cheney's the Cygnus X-1 of assholes right now. So, we can add "Careless Hunter" to the list along with Traitor, Military Service Dodger, Liar, Warmonger, Constitution Defiler, Dr. Strangelove Impersonator and Graceless Potty Mouth. I like how the Vice-President's Office "took the lead" in notifying the press about this by letting the ranch owner tell the local paper..the banality of evil, indeed. Upside down cruxifictions would be too good for these people.

What a shock, Cheney was ignoring a basic hunting law.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060214/ap_on_go_pr_wh/cheney_hunting_accident

Cheney Cited for Breaking Hunting Law

The warning came from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department after it investigated Cheney\'s accidental shooting of a fellow quail hunter Saturday on the private Armstrong Ranch in the south part of the state.

The department found the accident was caused by a \"hunter\'s judgment factor\" when Cheney sprayed another hunter while aiming at flying birds.

The report said the victim, prominent Republican attorney Harry Whittington of Austin, was retrieving a downed bird and stepped out of the hunting line he was sharing with Cheney. \"Another covey was flushed and Cheney swung on a bird and fired, striking Whittington in the face, neck and chest at approximately 30 yards,\" the report said.

    Where did you get hit?

Unless you were in the face, you needed to be airlifted to a hospital, and oh yeah, your brother in law was the Vice President of the United States, I wouldn't call it the same thing.

Tough break for Whittington. He's had a successful career and now during the twilight of his life, he'll have to live it out with pellets in his face.

If Whittington had accidentally shot Cheney, I'm guessing secret service would've killed him.

The Chron reported this morning that this stamp thing was relatively new and they are simply issuing warnings right now. This is a non-issue.

EDIT: He had a valid license. But they started a new program that you need this stamp AND a license.
