Q Mr. President, does this John Edwards selection force you to spend more time in the South, and change your strategy in the southern states now? THE PRESIDENT: I'm going to carry the South because the people understand that they share -- we share values that they understand. They know me well. And I am -- I believe that I did well in the South last time, I'll do well in the South this time, because the Senator from Massachusetts doesn't share their values, and that's the difference in the campaign. Yes. Q Will you have to spend more time, strategy-wise? THE PRESIDENT: Well, talk to -- talk to the schedulers. I'm not the scheduler, I'm just a simple candidate.
Is this a real quote? I don't understand how someone who went to college (even if was because of his Dad) can be so inarticulate and dim-witted. Simple indeed.
I know you probably know this, but his statements are commonly "cleansed" and edited before they are printed in the newspapers. A few more administrations of Republican leadership in education and we'll have a populace who cares even less about having a leader who can speak English as well as the non-native speakers who lead foreign nations. It's incredibly sad.
I'm fairly concerned that Bush really will come to his senses and dump Cheney. I just heard a brilliant suggestion over on DailyKos for a way that Kerry can make sure this never happens- Kerry Should Demand That Bush Replace Cheney! Bush will be cornered. He won't be able to throw Cheney under the bus without looking like he is caving in to Kerry. Waddayathink?
I'm not sure I like it. If you believe Cheney needs to go, he should go, period. What if W. wins... I'd much rather see Powell or McCain or just about anybody except Cheney... The race is not going to hinge on whether Cheney is there or not, so in the interests of the country, I'd just as soon see him go now... particularly given the fact that disgruntled aides will start leaking and inevitably, other stories will come out...
