That's not the way it happened in Spain. Why the difference? Laura Ingraham has today nicknamed John Edwards: Silky Pony.
Actually, I feel that it would go the other way. Because it will happen on Bush's "watch." And since we all hear about this "Oh, there's been no terrorist attack since Bush took over, etc, etc..." Even after the 1993 WTC (failed) attack we didn't get attacked again until 2001 (with minimal security). So, of course attacks will lessened with increased security. Duh! But if we do get attacked (with the increased security measures of today) it would be an effect of the increased terrorist activity we've seen from around the world catching up to us. World wide attacks have increased since Bush has taken over. So, the issue is much larger than just "our lands." Bush's personality and shoddy foreign relations causes half the hatred he's trying to stomp out in the first place.
Actually, in one of his cases he told the jury that he could hear the voice of the deceased baby crying out for justice or some such. I guess it worked.
I like John Edwards. He wasn't my favorite choice, but he's a good guy. He's someone that took a real interest in politics and decided to get involved. It is true that Edwards was in a different position before politics where he made some money. Unlike our current president Edwards was successful and what he did prior to politics. I don't think that's really relevant except that he has a track record of success. He's been touched by personal tragedy, one that people like gwayneco seem to want use against him. I don't think we should let people who resort to personal, and low attacks on a person set out tone here. Edwards gives a more personable face to the ticket, and perhaps a slight boost in some southern states, but doesn't do much else.
Man, this announcement is hours old and already the Wall Street Journal is slamming Edwards, T_J is repeating the Bush website, and the RNC has released a tome on Edwards that reflects the zealousness of GOP-indoctrinated interns who made it through college without having to write a research paper. All-in-all, a thoroughly predictable response. (And by the way, here's what Bush said about McCain in a South Carolina ad: "Do we really want another politician in the White House America can't trust?" http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/649237.stm )
In a perfect world Edwards would be much too inexperienced to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency. Sadly, in the real world he represents a major improvement over our current President and Vice-President.
Link, please. If Spencer Tracy used that line as a lawyer in the movies, there wouldn't be a dry eye in the house. Have you ever been involved in a personal injury case, gwayneco? It's hard work being an attorney. It's very, very difficult fighting the unlimited resources of the big insurance companies to try and get a good and fair judgement for your clients. They don't spend all their time playing golf... they work their azzes off. For every "famous" case where a client gets millions, you have the overwhelming majority that are settled out of court for a fraction of what the victim and their attorney believes is fair. And then there are the victims who get nothing. This fantasy is as much based in reality as the bogus notion that everyone on welfare drives a Cadillac. I'm glad he choose Edwards. He'll be a refreshing change to Kerry's ponderous style. It's a strong ticket, compared to George W. and Cheney. As a Democrat, I could wish for another Bobbie Kennedy at the top of the ticket, but this is what we've got, and it's a hell of a lot better than 4 more years of madness under Bush. Kerry/Edwards is a ticket I can work for... Bring it on!
So it's bad when Edwards says he hears voices from beyond, but it's good when Bush says he hears God telling him he should be president? Got it.
I think the big difference here is that one used it rhetorically while the other one actually believes it.
I really don't get why the GOP and all the right-wingers here are trying to make this an issue? Is this the best that ya'll can come up with? Using this as your attack only insults the intelligence of people that care about issues and policies when debating Presidential candidates I know it gets harder and harder each day to defend your President based on policy and issues, but come on, grow up and move beyond 3rd grade tatics
McCain on Edwards... "He's got the ambition, the talent and the brains to go very far, to be president of the United States." -Charlotte Observer, 2/26/01 And with that, I declare a moratorium on McCain quotes... he's sort of like Jefferson in that he's said so many things, either side can use him to make a point.
