eh, I have nothing much against the guy, at least he's educated and intelligent enough to qualify as a justice. I don't expect a partisan president to pick a moderate, so i can only hope that if he chooses someone conservative, he chooses someone who can voice opinions intelligently. i was upset at Mier's withdrawal because for a week there I thought that I would also have a chance at being a supreme court judge if she got in. another plus on this is that Thomas' opinions will be much more diverse. Instead of simply writing "Follow Scalia" he now has the second option of writing "Follow Alito".
Feel free to review Ginsbergs rulings over the years, they speak for themselves... she sides with the liberal view on nearly every case.
So how would you classify someone whose views cut across your neatly predefined idelogical tags....for example, someone who is conservative on fiscal issues (wants low taxes, balanced budget) and liberal on social issues (supports a woman's right to choose, end the war on drugs)? Would you call them a Communist?
Its well documented that the "liberals" lose elections in Texas, at least and some other states, because of the district realignments that they've done over the past few years
I remember when I sat in and watched a supreme court case a couple of years ago, Clarence Thomas literally fell asleep in the middle of arguments. He was slightly hunched over but he did a good job of disguising it to make it look like he was reading an imaginary paper in front of him. They had to send an usher to tap him awake. God I wish I had my cell phone at the time so I couldve snapped a picture.
In addition to swinging the Court decidedly towards conservative principles, one of the best parts of this nomination is how it really chaps the liberals' collective a$$. SCALITOWNED
Do you think you have enough votes to successfully filibuster? Remember, Alito was confirmed 100-0 twice for lower courts. Seems like the Gang of 7 may nix any plans for a filibuster. Alito is incredibly qualified and there is no just reason to deny him.
You dont need votes to filibuster. That's why you'd filibuster in the first place,....cause you dont have votes.
Alito wants to overthrow Roe V Wade. All Democrats and a handful of Republicans will not support his nomination.
