ok, even though nader may swing the election again towards bush's favor, i still respect his choice to run. im not a big fan of kerry, but as a voter, i have to make compromises to prevent the worst case scenario instead of voting for who i think would be the best.

I'll bet Nader drops out of the race a month or so before the election.

If anyone here really believes that Nader will even get HALF the support in places like Florida and Michigan he got in 2000, you are either wishful thinking or a complete (well not complete, but close) moron.

Voters now know that their vote COULD decide the difference between keeping or ending the Bush administration. Plus, I think the difference in Florida will be made up by African Americans who were kept from the polls in 2000. Now that they know what can go wrong without special attention, Jesse Jackson and others wont let that happen again.

Tell that to folks such as the DNC chairman, the Senator from California, etc. who were calling on Nadar to not even think about running for presidency this weekend cause it would make a joke of this years election process.

These key democratic leaders were going crazy with the thought that Nadar would run this year, and now they have to backtrack from their statements.

Why do they have to backtrack about anything?
Nadir has made it clear as to why he's running... for himself, not for his "causes". I think most of his supporters in 2000 have come to realize that. His candidacy will hurt the Democrats, however, because he will be as equally dismissive of them as he will be of Bush. His ego doesn't allow anything else. Make no mistake, this is bad news for the Democratic Party. It will only matter if the election is as tight as 2000, however, which I don't think will be the case. But it's too early to do more than make educated guesses.

It's possible, but I've already heard of several groups that are left of the democratic party, sending messages against supporting Nader, etc. I don't think he'll have very much of a draw at all. I think people are more focussed on getting rid of Bush than supporting someone like Nader even if he is closer on the issues to certain voters. This is all speculation, of course, so I could be wrong.

When voters in the primaries are loudly chanting "ABB" together as they wait to vote, I don't think he'll have much of an impact. He will get lots of time on Fox and cash from the GOP big money types, but that's about it.

Also, if he really cared about his issues, how about running for something he could win? Rep or Senator maybe.

Liberals, I urge you to stand up for your core beliefs and vote Nader. End the unjust and illegal war! Allow for gay marriage! End corruption and special interest influence in Washington! Protect consumers and American jobs!

Arguably, I live in the most liberal city in the entire US of A (San Francisco). Half of this town thought our new mayor was too conservative, and he's the guy that started issuing same sex marriage licenses. Enough said.

Anyway, I have to relay the sentiments of all of my most lefty friends. Most of them voted for Nader in 2000, and *each* of them has dismissed him for 2004.

Here's a fun list of reaction quotations. (the Powell one is in my sig... not related to Nadir)
    --------------------------------------------------------
"I think that Ralph Nader is proving that the only master that he serves is his enormous ego." -- Scott Maddox, chairman of the Democratic Party in Florida.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I'm going on a national crusade to stop Nader. This is only going to help Bush." -- Al Sharpton, Democratic Party candidate for president.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"We're happy that Ralph Nader's joined the fray. Good. Bring some more on. Maybe Jesse Jackson can run, and Justin Timberlake will get on the ballot. Who knows? Bring in all of them ... because we're solidly united behind George Bush." -- Arkansas Republican Gov. Mike Huckabee.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"In the last three years, the Bush administration has mounted arguably the greatest assault on our conservation laws ever seen. Mr. Nader's entry into the presidential race only increases the likelihood that assault will continue for a second term. It is monumentally irresponsible for Ralph Nader, who professes a reverence for our natural environment, to take any step that aids the president's re-election bid." -- Rodger Schlickeisen, president of Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"It's of absolute, utmost importance that George Bush is not re-elected." -- Pat Lamarche, Green Party candidate for Maine governor in 1996, in calling for the party not to field Nader or any other candidate in 2004.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Republicans love Ralph Nader!" -- Minnesota Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"People who voted for him the last time recognize they made a mistake, and they won't do it again." -- Iowa Democratic Gov. Tom Vilsack.

I voted for Nader as kind of a protest vote in 2000. I knew that my vote didn't really matter in Texas and didn't really like Gore anyway. The biggest problem I had with Nader was the Green platform, which is way, WAY too socialist for me.

I saw Nader on Meet the Press Sunday and he impressed me, specifically on the issue of corporate influence and the effect that money has on the political process. He is very passionate about many of the same issuses that drive me and is the only candidate (besides Kucinich  ) who supports ending the "War on Drugs."

However, getting Bush out is even more important than those issues.

    Ego. Eeeego. E-GO!!!

That being said, I do not believe Nader running in 2004 will have the same effect as it did in 2000. In 2000, Nader ran on the Green Party ticket, and was on the ballot in nearly every state. In 2004, Nader will be running as an independent, and will have to get himself on the ballot in each state. He'll be lucky to get on the ballot in 10 states, IMHO. On top of that, the Dems are much more organized and motivated in 2004 than they were in 2000.

We just need him on the ballot in one state -- FLORIDA.

RMTex -- don't you want to support someone who didn't vote for the unjust and illegal war in Iraq? Don't you want to pick someone who will allow homosexuals to marry? Don't you want to protect consumers and end the exporting of jobs? Nader represents these views far better than John Forbes Kerry or Edwards.

please tell me when has Nader ever endorsed gay marriage?
He has said he only supports civil unions (just like John Kerry)

MR. RUSSERT: But gays should be allowed to be married if they so choose, according to you.

    MR. NADER: Of course.

    Point well taken!

Thanks for thinking of me T_J. I appreciate your concern for my stands on the issues. To me, there is one issue unique to the 2004 Presidential Election, and that is the one I will be voting on....the fact that George W. Bush is the worst President in my lifetime, and that I will be voting for the person with the best opportunity to defeat him.:D
