As I think about it, this sounds more and more likely a trade like this: Lin/Asik + White + Patterson/Morris + fillers for Garnet + fillers.

Lin/Asik has to be involved for salary matching purpose as well as retaining our capspace for the summer free agency. Most likely it's Lin, since his ability overlaps with Harden.

Celtics is said to be high on White predraft. Contrary to the pupular opinion, I think White has the highest trade value out of our rookies, because he has 'untested potential'. Just like when you purchase something, the second you unwrap the packaging it becomes used. TJ/DMO maybe better, but people would say they are not good enough to even crack the rotation. White has an excuse and his beauty lies in the eyes of beholder - Teams like Celtics high on White's potential would take the risk rather than getting safer prospects with no star potential.

Patterson/Morris is for salary matching purpose. As good as Garnet is, I don't think we need to offer TJ/DMO on top of Lin and White.

Hell, Lin, Aldrich, and Smith would match his salary, that is about all I would give and that might be enough. It would save them around 8 mil in luxury tax. I would rather find a way to pry away Ryan Anderson from New Orleans though.

Aldirch is expiring. You do this, and you'll lose the cap space in the summer. There have to be trades afterwards to clean things up.

Some things (desparately going for Bosh) help you. You wanted Bosh to know how badly the org wants you, and the media helps perpetuate that. Other orgs couldn't outspend us on him or outmaneuver us in a trade, so there were only positives gained from letting people know about it

In this case, deflecting attention away can only help him if he's trying to make a move. Less media attention if it's even somewhat perceived that we're not trying to be as active can be helpful. Those kind of things snowball. More and more people will think we're not being active, giving Morey room to maneuver quietly

You don't give up youth in Asik or Lin for an aging Garnet that will likely retire in a 2 years. We are not contending. Even with Garnet we are not a serious threat at winning the championship. This proposes 2 of our better chips for a guy that doesn't make any long term impact. We won't move Asik or Lin until a 2nd star player is within reach. Garnet is not that star. He won't be a Rocket for long even if he is acquired.

It's not that I want to do this trade. I'm collecting the clues from OP, and think the trade may have to include White and Garnet. From there I propose the most likely trade scenario which can keep our capspace.

To be honest, I'd rather roll the dice with our young guys this season. But I do appreciate Garnet's impact on the court.

Maybe we can do a trade like Delfino+White+Aldrich+Ppat/Morris +filler for Garnet+filler. Then we can keep Lin and Asik to make a push for deep playoff run. On draft night or early offseason we make trades to clear caproom for another star in summer free agency. That'd be complicated though.

Holy f***, what kind of trade is that?

I wouldn't give that for Garnett in his prime, let alone now, at 36 years of age and the odometer at 576,234 miles.

OK, back off the give-away-the-team for Garnett. Boston would take a rookie PF not named Royce Twitter and maybe Morris or Pittypat. We absorb Garnett with caproom.

I'm totally with ya on this KG trade scenario stuff, but lets not get too carried away here.

KG in his prime would be monster on this squad. Immediate contender status with prime KG.

I agree KG in his prime would be worthwhile and worth half the farm.

This whole trade scenario makes a lot more sense if there was a 3rd team involved. People shouldn't get their hopes up though. If the right deal isn't there we may just acquire some picks for ppat and Douglas. There is a lot. I do like this thread though and hearing Doc's hints at what hes heard.

It was hyperbole on my part. I almost typed, "Well, maybe I would", after the "in his prime" part.

But KG @ 36 isn't worth the farm. Some cows, a decent horse, but not the whole farm.

I would have thought I had this figured it out, had it not been for Clutch's post stating that he has no idea what this is about... f*** it all

what? Are you saying there are trade scenarios Morey can only make sneakily? Morey's said ' I won't make a move that hinders our max cap space', to lose some of the heat coming form the media?

ummm, im not sure if this means anything, but look at this

    http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Daily/Closing-Bell/2012/01/13/Love.aspx

I keep thinking one or two of the Daves look like Kevin Love, but I can't connect him to the story at all. I did some research and was only able to come up with the above. I don't see how that tells me anything though... Any more guesses?

I'm saying there are situations (see: Harden) where he'd be better served by not having attention around the team's potential dealings. And yes, saying he's not going to make a trade for someone big can take media heat away. It's the same effect as a smokescreen deal. Not sure where the disconnect is..

I've got it figured out -- Clutch will be a playable character in Grand Theft Auto 5.
