Consider this: For the first time in NBA history, 3-point shooters are outscoring paint scorers. Coming into Tuesday's games, playoff scorers had yielded 4,602 points via 3s and 4,512 points in the paint. This fact is more than just trivia. It reveals that games are being won and lost far away from the rim -- and that represents a paradigm shift in pro basketball.

Harden's Rockets have been the harbingers of this whole movement. Back in 2016-17, they became the first team in history to ever take more than 40% of their shots from 3-point range. Just a few seasons later, all NBA postseason teams on average are taking 43.4% of their shots from beyond the arc, per Second Spectrum tracking data. Everybody is the Rockets now.

Evolution happened quicker than everyone realized.

Could have waited until next season for rest of league to catch.

New system, new coach. Taller and more skilled players.

I believe someone said the team had the smallest equipment team in the NBA.

    Expand the war room too.

Evolution is going back to old school hooping.

I totally see the truth of this, and I really think it's one reason ratings have been off. 3-pointers used to be kind of exciting when they were rare, but some NBA games, and some playoff games, just look like a bunch of free throws and long jumpshots. If you're channel surfing, and you're not a dedicated basketball fan, it just doesn't look that exciting. There's no Dr. J, Jordan, or Magic fastbreak, or Bird houdini stuff. We just get a bunch of teams trying to get good looks at 3-pointers, maybe a few dull dunks, and then a bunch of free-throws.

I think they need to add the hand checking rules back honestly. Personally, it was better to watch then, that's just me. I can still watch old classic games and enjoy them?

I think all of the sports are trending more towards favoring offenses but man...I love a pitchers duel, it makes every AB seem precious.

I love a 7-10 NFL game and I loved when defenders were actually able to use their strength.

Now, flopping is encourage. One of the things I hate the most is when post defenders flop, always hated that. I guess because I've seen it so much against Yao as the league started to change. Just don't defend, just fall down when a guy posts up, whistle, good defense. F that.

The problem with the Rockets is for the past few years Morey spends all his money on 2 guards and fills the rest of the roster with less than bigs. It's stupid.

Look at all the past champions in Warriors, Heat, Spurs, and Lakers teams. Their top paid players weren't 2 guards. They paid for star forwards and Centers. Not only that, most those teams did not pay 2 players double the money as the 3rd highest player. They spread the wealth and had more top quality players.

We put all our chips into 2 guards and expect greatness from a surrounding cast bought with the scrap money.

    Build around
    Harden
    Gordon
    Covington....
Surround these three guys with length
    And shooting

Tucker is too old plays below the rim will have contract issues
    Westbrook can't shoot
House might be need to be traded
Rivers is ok but that position should be given to a rookie ...

This whole small ball, 3 points or nothing started with their obsession with GSW and they failed every time because they didn’t have the right personnel or just plain bad luck. They need to get over that, it was 3-4 years ago.

Next year things will be worse, GSW will be back hungrier then ever, Lakers and Clippers will still be there and you have a Nuggets and Mavericks team about to pass you up. The Rockets are no longer the second best team in the west anymore.

I agree but it’s not very fun to watch. Jokic and his half court passing are fun to watch though, as per vid above.
