The injuries plus the fact that Chandler and/or Amare may not fit in is a negative factor. We might have to pick up Peja for Chandler, that would be a no-no for me even if Chandler was healthy and a good fit for us.

I too feel that the Warriors might be the number 1 trading team for us. S.Jackson can be had if they want to get out of his contract but GS will probably ask us to take Maggette or Crawford as well. I don't see them giving up on Ellis that quickly, nor do I expect them to move Randolph/Biedrins.
We could get Brandon Wright but I'm not interested in him.

One monkey wrench with Phoenix is that maybe they should just buy out Shaq, so that they don't have to fire-sale Amare. Shaq would take at least a $5 million discount in a buyout, as he could get that back from the team of his choice with a MLE deal. Maybe he would take even less than $15 million on a buyout to go to a winner. A buyout should get Phoenix under the luxury tax. Amare could then go back to playing the 5 like he did under D'Antoni.

Would be a dream to get Granger, but Tinsley/Lowry at the PG makes me cringe a bit.

The Rockets would likely step deep into luxury tax territory. Also, the Pacers might want the Rockets to take Dunleavy instead of Foster, plus have Houston throw in some draft picks.

While I don't think the Pacers would expect to get a "top 10 player" back in a trade of Granger and terrible contracts, I am inclined to agree with you that the Pacers will want more for Granger. Draft picks would need to be included. Plus, the Pacers might actually be below the salary cap this summer, so the urgency might not be as great for Indiana as it is for the Hornets or Suns to slash payroll. Still, the Pacers are hemorrhaging money.

McGrady won't get us much,Landry/Scola/Brooks and possibly Lowry will undoubtedly be asked for in return for someone valuable. That will be tricky.

If NJ wants Lowry plus McGrady and fillers(Dorsey,Cook,Barry) for Carter I'm all right with it,but not for Scolandry. I didn't include Brooks, because they already have Harris.

Is Foster a UFA? I don't mind him as a cheap pickup, even though he isn't the kind of 5 we really need.

I am thinking with the talk that Les wants to "go get it" we may be seeing Amare and Barbosa in a Rockets uniform. I just feel like Amare would be a great help for Yao and when Yao is sitting, having Amare at the 5 and Scola in at the 4 makes us extremely tough. While I would hate giving up Brooks and Landry, Barbosa off the bench with Lowry starting is not bad at all. We would without a doubt be the top defensive squad in the league. I think we already are as is...

Can any trade gurus tell me why the idea above would/wouldn't work?

    great article, great read.

sounds like we're in play to pick up a player or 2, i think the wizards are selling their 5th pick and i've read that the rockets are interested, harden or hill would be a nice pick there.

i'd like camby, chandler, or stoudamire, all can play 4 or the 5 defensively but i wouldn't give up shane, ron, or scola. i'd consider them untouchable.

Clutch, I'd be curious to get your take on exactly what the Rockets could do as far as trading with the Chicago Bulls. I know that they want to re-sign Ben Gordon and will probably have to cut some salary to effectively do so.

What do you think of this trade proposal I suggested in another thread, where the Rockets could get a solid starter without even having to use T-Mac's expiring contract:

    Aaron Brooks
    Brent Barry
    Brian Cook
    Joey Dorsey

    for

    Kirk Hinrich

If this trade happens after July 1, this deal actually saves the Bulls the maximum possible in a straight salary-for-salary trade, instantly saving the Bulls about $2M, let alone the remaining $17M owed to Hinrich beyond next season. The Bulls get a lightning quick backup to Derek Rose (Brooks) and some expiring contracts. Chicago could just waive or buy out the other guys. Perhaps the youngsters could use Barry's veteran presence.

Meanwhile, the Rockets would get a solid all-around veteran PG in Kirk Hinrich, who has a better 3-point percentage, higher basketball IQ and is a vastly superior defender to Brooks. Sure, the Rockets lose a bit of quickness, but the team would still have that element with Lowry. Also, Hinrich's contract actually goes DOWN in value each year. He is set to make $9.5M in 2009-10, $9M in 2010-11 and a reasonable $8M in 2011-12. He is only 28 years old and will still be only 31 when his contract expires.

Sure, the Rockets would be giving up Brooks's bargain basement contract in exchange for Hinrich's relatively pricey deal. But the Rockets (in my opinion) would improve on the court. I'm not necessarily saying that I would do this deal if I were Daryl Morey, but Hinrich strikes me as one of those undervalued players that Morey likes. "Undervalued" as in how his game is currently viewed by his team and most other franchises, not by the size of his contract.

The Rockets would have a solid group that includes Yao, T-Mac, Artest (if they are able to re-sign him), Battier, Scola, Hinrich, Lowry and Landry. Plus, the team could STILL package T-Mac with Scola, Landry and/or Lowry and draft picks in exchange for another significant piece.

It's not my money, but I'd look long and hard at that deal if I were Les and Morey.

    I really don't want Stoudemire.

I guess I'd try to be happy about it if it happened, but there are plenty of factors why I wouldn't like it:

    1. Stoudemire plays very little defense,
    2. Stoudemire's knee would probably blow out 5 minutes into his first game,
    3. Stoudemire is as self-absorbed as they come which could kill chemistry (kinda like T-Mac),
    4. Stoudemire coming would probably mean Landry leaving.

Bimathug, can Brooksball's proposal about Redd/Sessions or Jefferson/Sessions in a S& T with McGrady work or not?

Not too mention the eyes and the fact that he wants to be #1 option.
