To add to that, why would New Orleans want Artest when they are gutting their roster? So that they win, say, 35 games instead of 28?

I agree that Scola or Landry would need to be thrown into any deal involving Chris Paul. Ron Artest CAN be signed-and-traded, but it must be immediate and (more importantly) he must consent. And I just don't see Artest consenting to this deal.

I would completely do the Chris Paul thing now. I really won't care if we had to take on Peja, Chandler and Posey's contracts to do it...

that would basically be swapping rosters, which would be betting on the hornets having a brighter future than the rockets. i don't see that being true because of their crippling contracts and older players which we would have to take on in order to get paul. the catch is, there is no cap flexibility to build around him before he's a free agent in 2012.

i'd rather cap space and young players. we'll land a star with a high draft pick or a max contract, maybe both.

    have some patience.

I understand patience, but we have no superstar on this team. Period. Even if Yao does come back from this surgery, I doubt he will be able to be a Top 3 Center in the league, if simply because of limited minutes, changing his game, more injuries etc.

Look my posts that put up the "Sorting out the cap" thread . I started that series of posts to show that we would have cap space, and ended up realizing that we really do not have cap space to sign the true superstars such as Lebron or Wade next year without trading Battier and/or Scola which would still be no certain thing that type of player.

I honestly don't believe that Bosh, Johnson, Stoudamire, etc. can be the superstar foundation of a championship team. Maybe as that second player you acquire to help your star, but not as your No. 1.

Looking at NO, they are in their position because all their cheap players give have no production, which is the opposite for us. So even takign on much of their roster we could add depth to it. Secondly, Chandler and Peja become expiring contracts that 10-11 season which mean able to trade to pick up players the following off season such Josh Smith, Gerald Wallace, Kevin Martin, etc and potentially other players who may have worn out their welcome by then.

We would have to likely pay $5 mill in lux tax this year, but after that it could easily work.

damn it. I was just going to say that.

The Rockets are not plundering anyone at the moment. We're in the back of the prison bathroom surrounded by 7 large men and no one is around.

    :(
