I would like to see Lee come over here. NY is looking to s&t him. I think he would fit very well in our system. I would still like a backup center though.

The rest of the message attached to this, well, gave no sense of irony.

Without our star player, we took LA to 7 games in the 2nd round.

If Tmac and his expiring contract can be moved to upgrade the team now, then it will be. Why waste next season paying him to NOT return? He'll milk his time off for all it's worth.

Looks more and more like New Jersey. They have all the resources to help our team retool at the most needed spots. New Jersey clearly has interest in clearing cap space and they've shown lots of interest in Carl Landry.

I would think the trade would look something like this:

    Tracy McGrady and Carl Landry

    For

Vince Carter, Trenton Hassell and 11th Pick (or Josh Boone).

With the 11th pick, I expect Houston to take BJ Mullens who appears to be a solid backup for Yao. Much of his problems are the same for Yao, getting deep post position and developing back to the basket moves.

With the MLE, I expect Houston to make a gesture by first offering it to Ron Artest (which he'll promptly reject for an offer from Los Angeles), and we'll reach out to Mike Bibby.

PG: Mike Bibby | Aaron Brooks | Kyle Lowry
SG: Vince Carter | Von Wafer | Brent Barry
SF: Shane Battier | Trenton Hassell | James White
PF: Luis Scola | Chuck Hayes
CN: Yao Ming | BJ Mullens | Joey Dorsey

This might very well be true. Someone correct me on this, but I think Landry has to approve any trade (involving him, of course) until September Whateverth, the 1-yr anniversary of his signing Charlotte's offer sheet.

If this happened, we're all gonna have one long summer.

Take this for what it's worth...

Look at this All-American guy (or All Al Quaeda, if you hate Duke and/or the Jazz). Apparently supergenuis Daryl Morey is interested in Carlos Boozer. We know someone who knows someone who knows someone. I’m not even joking or making this up. This is the first time we’ve broken a rumor, and it is legitimate enough to break and stand behind. As a rumor. But a real rumor. Would you encourage Dork Elvis to pursue this guy? Let’s do pro/con and then take a vote.
    [/rquoter]

One suggested trade (from here) which I'm sure will be real popular:

Brooks, McGrady, and Scola for Boozer and Kirilinko (works in trade machine).

Geez. I wouldn't even do Brooks and Scola for Boozer and Kirilenko straight up. No way they get McGrady's contract too.

He isn't a 6'11'' plus guy but he can play as a backup center as well, more so than Luis or even Chuck.I like his length and his smarts. He would a very good fit, but he is going to ask for a lot of money. The only way I can see him coming here is in a S & T with Ron as the main guy and that's not worth it.

I can't see houston including Brooks to get boozer, who will leave next year, and an overpaid AK.....i can't see them going for AK under any scenario, he's making 15 mill + for 2 more years.........i rather give them Lowry and find a way to buy a pick to land Ty lawson.

I would die a little inside if we traded for Carlos Boozer. There seriously isnt a guy in this league I dislike more.

    McGrady + Cook ($25.983,124M) to KNICKS for Lee + Mobley + Jefferies (S&T Lee* + $15.966,6M)
*In this trade package the min-max salary that can be offered to Lee is $4.724M to $16.612M

Landry + Mobley + Jefferies ($18.966,6M) to NETS for Carter + Boone ($18.180,218M)
-Thorn wants to add a tougher PF and claims it's the Net's off-season priority
-If the Nets keep Carter until the trade deadline they're still paying his wages. Trading for Mobley in the off-season saves them $7.917M

Rockets play the season with a 13 man roster:

    Brooks, Lowry, Prigioni
    Carter, Barry
    Artest ($7.38M), Battier
    Lee ($9M), Scola, Hayes
    Yao, Boone, Dorsey

    Team salary: c. $71.4M
The League's hypothetical 2009-10 luxury tax figure is $69.4M

McGrady plus Landry for VC plus Boone and Yi works on ESPN trade machine.
NJ is a hard trading partner, they might ask for Boone to be sent back to them.Give them Leunen as a filler if they insist.
It's risky, but I don't think we can get a better deal than that. As far as Ron is concerned,DM can offer him more money than any other team without dipping into the MLE. The Rockets can try to go for Zaza with the MLE or a Euro/Aussie big ala Scola. Les will definitely have to go well above the LT in the upcoming season.

    Riots!

AK is the most overpaid player in the league.

While most people don't like him, Tyler Hansbrough would help us much more in the first few years than Mullens would, but the 11th pick is way too high for Hansbrough.

how attached are we really to ron? i mean after a while watching him go 4/19 on 20-foot jumpers off one foot gets old. and i know it's a long shot, but how's this for a trade to land paul?

    New Orleans Gets
McGrady, Barry and Cook Expirings ($28MM or so according to hoopshype.com)
    Aaron Brooks
Ron Artest (sign and trade for let's say around $10-$11 over 2-3 years)

    Houston Gets
Chris Paul (in the first year of his extension)
    Tyson Chandler
    Peja Stojakovic

I think one thing people are forgetting is that George Shinn is the only owner in whose NBA franchise is his primary source of wealth. Unloading two awful contracts in Chandler and Peja in exchange for $30MM off the books after next year is something I bet he would consider doing, esp. given that this team peaked in 2008 and clearly isn't going to get better in the future (Simmons is dead on with that). The Hornets need cash so bad that as of now, they are the only NBA team to tap the league's revolver with JP Morgan. Take it from a guy working on Wall Street, when you draw on your revolver, you better need the money. That's the rainy day fund folks.

For the Rox this trade is obvious. We get a bonafide megastar in Paul and with Chandler, we can actually cut Yao down to 25-30 minutes (or even less if lucky) in regular season games against the likes of the Kings and Grizz. As for our now empty 2-guard spot, that's where I think Les will come through and buy our way into the top 5 for a guy like Harden. Then you're going to war with a rotation of Paul, Yao, Battier, Scola, Landry, Wafer, Peja, Chandler, Hayes, Lowry and a top 5 pick.

Two things: First, as desperate as Shinn might be, he still needs to make a trade thats sensible for his team. That means we need to give up, at the very least, someone like Luis Scola. Secondly, we cant sign and trade Ron Artest. Once he signs a contract, he wont be able to be traded for some time.

I think if you throw in Luis instead of Artest and throw in a pick somewhere. Shinn may consider it, not to say its even going to warrant more than a second look.

Nice first post, rageatari34. But I have to question two things:

    (1) Why would Ron Artest agree to be signed-and-traded to a team that will basically only have Aaron Brooks, David West and a bunch of scrubs? It seems that he would not consent to such a trade.

    (2) What would the Rockets part with (besides cash) to get a top 5 pick? It will take a hell of a lot more than $3M in cash (the max allowed in a trade) to get a pick that high. You still have the Rockets with Scola, Landry and Lowry. It would take at least one of those guys, plus taking on a bad contract, plus cash to get a top 5 pick.

Still, I like your assessments on the financial side (i.e., drawing on the league revolving line of credit). Welcome to the BBS (or at least to posting on it).
