Even though we have the $23 million expiring contract of McGrady, it may be difficult to trade with other teams because our main piece of trade bait is a gigantic expiring instead of, say, two $11 million dollar expiring contracts.

Teams like Dallas have better trade bait than we do in my opinion. They have some pretty serviceable players along with some favorable contracts, especially Jerry Stackhouse's. His contract is a $7 million dollar expiring with only $2 million guaranteed, so for teams that want to ditch some salaries quickly, his contract is a win-win.

But then again, it really depends on the team that we want to trade with and if they are willing to trade a few players for one big expiring.

im all for dealing with the pistons a sign and trade with detriot would be nice

    rockets trade:
    Tracy McGrady
and another fill in player (Barry Dorsey or Cook??)

    Pistons trade:
    Rasheed Wallace
    Richard Hamilton

and either re-sign Artest or try including Tayshaun Prince in the deal and resign Von Wafer

    Our New Line-up:
Brooks/Lowery (starting spot up for grabs)
    Hamilton/Wafer
    Battier/(Artest or Prince)
    Scola/Landry
    Yao/Sheed/Hayes

i would like amare and barbosa but would prefer wallace and rip our team is based on DEFENSE and think sheed and rip have more of a defensive mind

    what do yall think??

Great read, thanks clutch. I would love to see Tyson in a Rockets uniform.

PHX and NO are the dream trade situations imho.

Either way, we have a damn good team.....especially if our main guys stay healthy.

So it's not a time to fall for a crappy deal. We've go the upper hand, deal or no deal our team is legit.

That being said, we can be major winners in suckering other teams to save them money, we need another big.

    Deuce's 3 way scenario = #1 in my book
    Brooksball's GS scenario= #1a in my book
    Pheonix= #3

My preference of all the proposed. This team needs front court length and a guy who can get the the rack (and not get stuffed a la Brooks). The line up of Battier/Artest is a dribble penetration's nightmare.

Kudos to Clutch for the article and the thought in Deuce and Brooksball's suggestion. This wasn't a bad 10 page thread to read!

YOu are nuts, it's just too damned good to be true and if that happened...man.

Good research & very creative thinking though.

Interesting that the Rockets wanted Stoudamire so badly. He's going to want max money (and he's not a max player IMO), and we already have Scola, Landry, and Hayes at PF?

I'm all for keeping our core (including Ron, could care less about Wafer), and adding a SG and backup C which we should be able to do without blowing up our team.

That wasn't my idea. It was leebigez's. I just responded to him and showed what our rotation might look like. I think it may be more reasonable than some of the other scenarios. We would help GS offload some contracts and fill a lot of needs in the process. It isn't as flashy as getting some of the bigger names but it might be something worth considering, esp. if all we'd really be giving up is McGrady's contract. GS would have to be desperate to save money in future years.

Starting back court will be ultra small. Brooks + Hamilton + Battier?

I love the idea of Rip as a Rocket, because Rip would be perfect for Adelman's offense. He unselfish, knows how to move without the ball, and he plays defense. Sheed as a Rocket scares me though if we're going to keep Artest. That said I would rather see us try and get a 3-way deal going and try and include Camby or Chandler into the deal.

if we somehow got GRANGER that would be golden...
I think there's a very very small chance of it happening...
But with MOREY + Mcgradys contract anything is possible...

Interesting idea. I'm not wild about this but it does make sense for all parties involved given need, intentions and past interest/rumors. I suppose the idea of adding Carter/Chandler for essentially nothing is enough to get me to overlook their ugly contracts. I would still prefer somebody younger (Amare, K-Mart, etc.), though.

I think Tyson could be had because we know Hornets are struggling with money. I really don't think the Suns will even consider us for trades because both Nash and Stoudemire have 1 year left (If Stoudemire opts out) on their current contracts. Why would they want Tmac's expiring? Also I think they can do much better than offers of Aaron Brooks or Carl Landry.

    Tyson is overrated.

Hes only good on defense and is horrible without Paul on offense.

I don't think a draft pick would make any difference to our fate. Our team has been organized pretty well and we have built good chemistry, besides we cannot get a high ranked draft that can start doing his work immediately after joining us. For the best scenario we can only give 10min/g or some to the rookie, considering our crowded squad and Adelman's conservative attitude in using young players.

Chandler is a good player but I would rather have Deke on our roster list if he abolishes his retiring plan.

I think we need to shoot for the sky and see how many great players that can actually have a chance to land in our pocket. I doubt this would be done during the summer. we may be involved with any blockbuster trade before the deadline.

We should acquire any player with long term contract or overpriced. we need trade picks as it keeps us moving.

Chandler is fine as a backup 5 and splitting mins at the 4, however his contract maybe an issue given his health issue. Not the best option.

will we able to get anderson from denver? he could be a good backup 5 behind Yao.

I could have sworn we were there already.

Brooks- Young and upcoming athletic point guard
Lowry- Young and upcoming backup/ starting point guard
Wafer- Young athletic knucklehead shooting guard
Landry - Young and athletic PF who is only going to get better
Dorsey- Young and athletic C/PF who is a prospect but can only get better if he works hard.

I believe we are already there. You can not have only a young team and expect great things to happen. You must add veterans in there also. That's why i believe and hope that they stay put. McGrady and Yao have never had a team this deep since the 2 joined. Now they won't have to play so many mins and their bodies hopefully wont break down.
