Scola has a hard time defending 4's much less defending a sf.

Thing about the Artest deal, his numbers don't exactly stand out. People liked the trade mainly based on what doesn't show up in the stat sheets: defense and his hard nosed style of play. So I wouldn't say that was a traded where the fans were just infatuated with his stat line. I wouldn't just throw Amare's stats out the window. If we make the trade, its because he can put up those type of numbers.

No apparently he isn't. If the deal includes brooks you don't do it, substitute hayes for brooks and you got a deal!

Possibly, but I really don't think this pertains to any of the other threads.

My main objective in making this thread was to show people that we were so hyped to get another star player in Houston (Artest), but we didn't realize that he wouldn't fit because we were blinded with the prospect of a deep playoff run and an added toughness.

Basically this is a comparison between the sentiments we had when we attained Artest and the very similar sentiments we have right now regarding Amare.

I didn't think of it that way. You're probably right, but I'm not in favor of getting Mike Miller is any case.

Thanks, Clutch, for throwing us this bone. I've been chewing on it... I'm worried about taking on Amare-- unless... there's no way we'd get Nash along with him, is there? I hate to think of what we might lose in that scenario; also, I'd like us to get younger, rather than older. One thing's certain: if we're really shopping Artest, something significant's gonna happen.

I would be extremely dissapointed if we gave up two of our younger guys.

I think his weak side defense can improve alot playin next to yao... but thats if he puts effort into it. with his athleticism he can average atleast 2 blocks a game and shot blocking is something we dont get at all from scola and landry(he has been improving recently). i think stoudemire could be a good fit with yao mainly because yao is a good passer and can find a cuting stoudemire going through the lane for the slam... with chemistry between the two of them it can be a beautiful thing... lets see how they do together in tonites allstar game

    Thanks for the info, Clutch!

I'd go all out to get Amare, but wouldn't come close to the same for Carter, unless I thought TMac would get back to being the player he was in last year's playoffs.

Carter-Yao isn't that much different than the TMac-Yao teams that have been bounced from the playoffs. It also requires young players for a guy on the wrong side of 30, and would also negatively impact our cap health.

The few teams I've seen Mike Miller this year, he hasn't looked like the player he was 3 years ago. His mobility is way down, I think due to an injury. He's still a great shooter, but not the multi-dimensional guy he once was.

I feel Amare is a poor fit on the team.

why is amare a poor fit, i understand he's a crap defender, but he's an ultra efficient scorer, and doesn't take up space in the post like most big man, he's a guy that plays in the mid-post are with his mid-range jumper and explosiveness with his first step. he'd be a great fit, and add another dimension to this team. you know why this team struggles so much? because yao is our only efficient player capable of scoring when he gets the ball....amare gives us another guy instead of the chucker that artest is. one chucker in mcgrady is enough...and you can say OMG we'll lose artest, but he's been nothing special defensively in fact making us worse.

and amare isn't a zach randolph type defender, at least he can block shots. . . .

i agree with the notion we should look at more "needed" positions, but I dont think that's a reason to say NO to Amare. just because the C's had al jefferson, didn't mean they should have gone after KG giving up all that depth. amare is considerably better than our other PF's. he's nowhere near KG, dont get me wrong, but sometimes quality is better than quanity.

I wouldnt mind losing Landry and Artest to get Vince but losing Brooks is a hard blow to absorb. Who would be our backup point? Barry??

Amare would just start complaining the second it was clear this was gonna remain Yao's team. I dont think he is a good fit here. If he would behave though... that would be an incredible front court.

Yes, thanks for the update, Mr Clutch.

1 - I have never been an Artest-man but I, too, believed he would be the missing piece. My biggest concern was how many gabillions it would take to sign him this summer. So, what team (or teams) is (are) hot for him? I guess we'll know within the next 95 hours or so.

2 - How do the Rox match-up $s and players for Miller? I like MM's ability to initiate the O, finish the O, and compete (even if he's ugly to look at). If it becomes multiples I, for one, would like to see Gomes and/or Foye in their package.

3 - Brooks and Landry and Artest = Amar'e (BTW - what the heck is Amar'e???). Yes, steep price but studs are studs and make the difference. Rudy, supposedly, wanted Stoudamire but couldn't or wouldn't move up to get him (Boki was appealing, too - [sic]). I'm not a huge AS man but I'd go deep to get him. Maybe Barbarosa and Battier are also included?
