This is a fallacy most people make. they project player's numbers based on their current numbers not realizing that the more you are relied on to score, the poorer looks you get in general and the lower your fg% drops. But whatever, you can call them a wash. Their percentages are so similar it's not worth arguing about.

My only point was to say that they are different players - one fits with Houston, one does not. I don't see the need to go beyond that.

Lin is the type of dude that will spend two hours before a game playing dress up and doing his hair then try to play grab ass and dap it out with Dwight on the opposing team while his team is getting demolished. Bev is the type of dude to say "get Dwight Howard the **** out of our lockeroom"

I worked with him on Texas Chainsaw Massacre as a stand in. (stand-ins replace the actors while the crews set up the shot, they switch once the set is ready to shoot) We were filming this scene where R Lee was over the top of this guy beating him up. I am R Lee's stand in and my friend is the one getting beat up. Lighting a set takes a long time (like 30-45 minutes) so two dudes in close proximity looking at each other gets awkward, right? So I start yelling R Lee Ermey lines from Full Metal Jacket at the guy but I changed it up to be only compliments. So I'm yelling stuff like, "Private, you have the deepest bluest eyes I've ever seen. How tall are you? I didn't know they stacked handsome that high" etc. You get the point, right?

Anyway, we keep doing this day after day and it snowballs into writing it down, talking about it all the time, laughing. Then we do this scene where R Lee is in the room with us and he caught me doing his lines so we gave him a few. I was scared, the guy is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet but there's a tensity to him that's real. He started laughing and told us that we should shoot it on film, make it black and white and enter it into a film festival. We never shot it, but R Lee was awesome. His son is really cool too.

I will probably get some heat for this, but I still think Lin is a better offensive player and playmaker than Beverley. Bev has come a long way in terms of offense, but he is still very limited. He has a floater, developed a nice shot when set, and has made strides handling the PnR with Capela, but Lin has shown better vision and penetration ability. The biggest difference (outside of the obvious D and fit with Harden) is that Bev will typically play within his abilities whereas Lin has penchant for trying home run plays that honestly is above his normal ability. The other notable difference is that Lin is a confidence player. When he is doing good, he tends to snowball. Unfortunately, the opposite is true as well; when he is struggling, he struggles HARD. I honestly would have loved to see us sign him for relatively cheap and have him come off the bench for us instead of say Lou under MDA's system even with all his crazy, nut hugging fans.

Haha, yeah. Lin in this system would be great. But his fans scare me and so I'm not sure it would be worth it. This place was miserable during his years and even after because all the bickering between fans of a team vs fans of a player created a situation where arguments made no sense. Right now we're just galvanized Rockets fans. Even the negative people out there are arguing in favor of the team. Now all we have to deal with is trolls. NBD.

Tracy fans and Yao fans and Howard followers were all better than Lin fans. At least the team was still valuable to them. I felt like all the YOFs were turning a corner and starting to cheer for the team. Lin fans never seemed to care about the team and that was a drag. But man, Lin was so much fun to watch in person. Going to a game where Lin was playing was awesome.

    I saw this one live:

A population of Yao and Tracy fans actually became Rockets fans because Yao and Tracy were actually good at basketball for a long period of time.
We didn't know Yao before he got drafted but he was a good player in China. We knew McGrady was an established All Star.
Yao fans were a little more sensitive because he represented an entire country. Both fans defended their players when criticized. I know cause I criticized them, just like every Rocket fan who wants success.

However when we get to Lin, who had a good streak in New York when D'Antoni was desperate, we saw a truly alien xenomorph type of fan with no soul and regard for humanity. Lin was plastered on covers of magazine based on a streak when others with vastly consistent and superior careers have not. Suddenly Lin was the champion of the insecure youth of kids who identify with him based on race/religion/both or personality.
For his few weeks of surprising play because no teams really knew him, he was idolized like a God by his fans. You can't criticize God cause God doesn't mess up. So when Lin joined the Rockets and messed up on a regular basis, the Lin fans who joined , attacked Rockets fans and blindly labeled fans/city even Clutch as racist. There was not one of them who intended to be a true team fan. Just look at when Lin screwed up that Portland game, they couldn't accept that his play caused the Rockets to lose a close game. Was this behavior because of Clutchfans? No. They acted the same way on the Lakers board and Hornets board and probably the Nets board (if they have one).

I went to a game when Lin played and I even met the guy. I wasn't impressed on the court and he didn't strike me with an aura of greatness like a Hakeem or Drexler . I didn't really think he cared about being a Rocket, he seemed like he was there for his own reasons which is fine.
Drexler and Dream love the city and the fans and it shows. They built a legion of Rockets fans for what they did for us. Remember when Artest was here for one year, his one year as a Rocket he bonded with city and he played for us and you felt it. Lin never felt like he was there for the Rockets, he was definitely there for himself and his religion.

So, thank god for Beverly. Things worked out for the best.

Dude you said you weren't impressed with lin like with you were with Olajuwon and Clyde. Well there is the crux of you're problem. The standard you held lin was obviously unrealistic . Clyde and Olajuwon are HOF players and lin despite the media sensation was nothing more then a solid role player. He was never an allstar or even a star but unfortunately due to the linsanity nonsense people held this guy to unrealistic standards.

If we hold him to realistic standards the guy was an undrafted player who has carved a nice niche for himself as a solid player.
