No, those are the best defenders historically.

    Here are the top 50:

    http://www.nba.com/history/players/50greatest.html

If you check the names, you'll be surprised how many of them are ranked extremely high.

Well, now that you put it this way, I don't think anyone will dispute the fact that good scorers can be good defenders as well.

But I'll emphasize on defence over scoring any day.

Of course, but what's the point of scoring when your opponents could easily score on you as well?

Come on, you of all people should know defence is the key to playoff success. There will always be games where shots don't fall, but if you can make sure your opponents don't score as well, then you can still pull off a JVG style 75-65 win.

JVG teams have never won a championship.

    Ever.

Come on don't drag this on, you get my point. It's not just JVG, it's every championship team out there.

Take Spurs for example, or Celtics and even the Lakers. The most recent championship winners all placed great emphasis on defence.

This team doesn't need a shut down top 5 defense, all they need a decent top 10-15 defensive squad and they would win some of these games. I want to think the acquisition of T-Will is the beginning of a trend to acquire more defensively skilled players who can also score unlike the other way around.

Honestly, with Shane still at a relatively high level and Jordan emerging...I want to see what Yao has left and if nothing, Morey needs to go get a shot-blocking force in the middle, that along with T-Will instead of Bud would make the defense look A LOT better right there.

I like TWill but I hope Morey doesn't fall into the trap of over reacting and going the opposite direction before he finds out if the current direction will work.

Get AB and Yao healthy and see what happens.

Yao alone makes a big impact on defense, more than any other player on the team.

Funny how people were saying Lowry was such a good defender and I was busy pointing out that playing perimeter defense is almost impossible these days with the new rules....and as soon as AB goes out, Lowry looks just like him on defense.....getting blown by at will.

Perimeter defense is tough in today's NBA....it is more important to have solid INTERIOR defense, and we do not....

What we need more than Twill's D at SF, is a shot blocking big....more than ANYTHING.....

Which is why I hope we go get Thabeet....

You were not even alive or barely born, so you have no idea what you are talking about.

Who played a 6-8 Point Guard, and absolute STUD defenders with Kareem, Scott, Michael Thompson and Rambis. Cooper and Worthy were big versatile defenders as well, as you know.

There is a lot of people me included that believe a good offense is the best defense.

But I still want a shot blocking hound from hell on my team!

Do you think actually think T. W. will will get any playing time without any practice time with the team. It will take time for him to learn R.A. system so he will be slowly and exasperatingly given playing time.

A good offense is not the best defense. There are tons of teams that have had tremendous offensive production that couldn't hold teams. That still gave up a ton of points.

You need to be able to lockdown when shots just aren't falling. Every serious contender needs to be able to lockdown when they need to.

You don't need to LOCK DOWN, but you do need to play good defense....teams that are great defenses rarely win much unless they can also score the ball.

Even with injuries they will most likely not play him. It would most likely take two or more players out for him to play.

I kept falling asleep last night how did Lee do on defense?

Yup. I would add that to put runs together you need stops. Stops also help the offense, especially transition offense. Transition O can make players hot which also helps halfcourt offense. It's that simple.

There is nothing worse than giving the opponent the opportunity to score bucket after bucket, it just wears the O mentally. If you can't play D, you have to score all the time. That's just unneeded pressure. Defensive stops are key to the mental strength of a team.

The fact is that you do not win rings If you do not have a top 5 defense, ESPECIALLY If you don't have a superstar. Ideally you have both, a defense and a superstar. We have neither.

Name one team that has won a ring in the last decade, that has not had a top 5 defense...

Thabeet won't fix it.(I would like him for us though...)

    Yao will not fix it.
