I have no illusions that we get the straight dope from the Rockets organization regarding what is really happening behind closed doors. But what you are saying is that basically the Rockets place too high a value on their assets, so that even when they've had opportunities to make a deal for an All-Star-caliber player, they haven't pulled the trigger. I'm glad we didn't step in the Amare mess, but I wonder how many other Amare-type players we've been close to getting, but haven't because Morey thinks our guys poop strawberries.

From everything you read about it then, to what was told after the fact-

    IMO its Occam's Razor-

The Suns wanted too much, and the Rockets didnt want to give that much because of A. no extension, and B. His Knee/health issues.

Anyway you look at it, a deal did not get done because of those two glaring issues that kept the Rockets from giving the farm away for Amare.

Its a good thing that whatever happened, happened though. That would have been one of the worst trades in Houston Rockets history.

I never heard the Brooks/Bud/2 #1s/Scola/Battier thing before. Did it leak out on the Phoenix side?

I think its time we consider sending Hakeem back into the gym and back onto the court.

I am for going after Howard. But I feel the probability is higher that this deal will propel us towards the basement than the ceiling.

    The big IF's:

IF the Magic want to deal with us in the first place

IF Deron wants to come to Houston and join Dwight

IF Dwight decides he wants to stay

    IF Dwight's back fully recovers

IF we still have good enough spare parts to put around Dwight & Deron

So IF all these happen, yes, ceiling, here we come. If any one of them, any one, DOESNT happen, then basement dwelling here we come.

And I say I am in favor of this because?

On the slim chance all the IF'S happen, we are contenders. And if the IF's dont happen, we certainly are likely to get the chance to rebuild and look at top 5 picks for a while.

Unless of course, the first IF doesnt happen and we dont get Dwight in the first place.

If we get Dwight then we're getting Deron.
I think I will cry tears of joy if this is somehow goes through.

Trust me, when it doesn't go through, you will cry. Because it won't happen.

I'm not saying they should've made the trade, just don't try to blow it off like it was up to something minor. If they truly viewed amara as a superstar, which we know he isn't, don't act like you could've gotte him for shane and scola.

Everyone remembers the so called tracy for billups, hamilton deal that fell through. It was never that. The only package detroit ever offered was billups or rip plus mcdyess for a max player expiring. That deal was also contingent on release mcdyess so he could go back to detroit. People on this board always talk about who we almost had or could've had.

Let's keep trying to trade for guys who don't want to come here. What could possibly go wrong?

How else can we get these guys here?

It sure as hell isn't going to be the appeal of a team mired in 9th place over the last 3 seasons that gets next to no national media coverage.

And it also sure as hell isn't going to be the appeal of a team that appears on surface value to have a "cheap owner" and a GM who views his players too openly as "assets".

So why not take a gamble, maybe one of those "guys who don't want to come here" just might like it here once he's been acclimated to the Rockets organization.

I appreciate all the comments and I want to weigh in (this always happens... so much I want to say that I wait until I get plenty of time)... but couple quick things.

Here's an Orlando Magic blog's take on this report:
    http://www.orlandopinstripedpost.co...s-houston-rockets-2012-deadline-orlando-magic

... most of the comments/replies are very positive about a potential deal with the Rockets.

Also I'll be on with Lance, Matt & Adam in about 15 minutes (8:00am) on Sports Talk 790... you can listen online at www.sports790.com.

Also, ESPN Radio in Orlando asked me to come on around 3pm. That's going to be interesting.

    Thanks for posting this Clutch.

On ESPN Radio, I believe it's ESPN 1080(as opposed to 1040)? Is that right? And 3pm ET or CT? Thanks again. :)

Yes, exactly... I'll tweet something a little later, but it's 1080 and it's 4:05pm Eastern (3:05 our time).

    Brief summary:

-Said some of what he said in the article - Rockets thought they had him, had he not opted in.

=Makes you wonder if the threat of being traded to a rental team made him opt in?

-With the new CBA, you can't get those max raises and years any longer. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

-Rockets have no real advantage over Dallas, except for maybe having better trade assets. Dallas has an owner willing to spend and Dirk.

-Rockets are trying to get the first one started(getting the first guy in). That's why they're willing to take the risk.

-Coming into this offseason, teams like either of the LA teams could feel disappointed with their playoff run and could get involved. Other teams he's willing to go to could get involved. That makes it different, maybe a bit more difficult, but the Rockets will....wait for it....yes, try to get involved again.

Just read that Deron was hanging with owner of the Nets and Deron Wife and AK wife have become bff. Looks like he is going to sign with the Nets.
