[ClutchFans] Rockets to begin season with Beverley, Asik as starters; Jeremy Lin off bench

But Lin is only contracted through next season. Plus, if he indicates that he is not going to sign further, Morey would not want to lose him to free agency so that would make an earlier trade more likely.

Lin is obviously not expressing displeasure as publically as Asik, but he is just as unhappy with his situation with the Rockets. If you are afraid that he may become an All-Star with another team, why are you benching him here? Harvard's standards have declined (with affirmative action and all), but Lin is not as stupid as Houston thinks he is.

I actually think Morey likes him and wants him to start, the problem is McHale. That's why I think he may force his hand otherwise you get another Asik situation.

One tenet of Moreyball is trade high. His god is made from numbers.

more like buy low. who has he traded on high? Lowry? He was coming of an illness relegated to bench duties and anger issues with coach.

Kmart? he had been relegated to the bench with anger issues with the coach? lowest fg% and low point in his career.

Thabeet is probably the only player traded while high for another player high, in camby.

I'm not sure where you are getting the idea that Lin is unhappy with his position on the Rockets. If he was getting fewer minutes than Beverley on a consistent basis, then I suppose he might be, But he is getting similar minutes to last year, closing games, and playing well.

Lin is very much a team oriented player. If the only downside for him is losing the "status" of being a starter, he's going to be fine with it. If he was losing status and minutes, it would undoubtedly be a different story.

There is no way Morey would want to trade him while he is in the process of getting significantly better, and while Morey is saying he doesn't know where Lin's ceiling is yet, unless the player he is trading for is an allstar+.

Why would Lin be unhappy? He's been playing well in his new position, closing games, and is getting a lot of minutes. What's the problem here?

Not sure if serious. The whole concept of "asset" is predicated on buying low and selling high which are two sides of the same coin. Selling high does not imply a breakout year stats wise but perceived value based on your trading partner. What we view as "selling high" our trade partner views as "buying low". In Jeremy's case, (IMHO) if you use player happiness and player development as indicators of how high the organization views a players value on the team (in Jeremy's case low), add that to the fact they may think his market value maybe peaking and you may make a case that a trade is imminent.

Harvard's standards weren't that high either back when they were essentially only letting in rich white dudes while denying themselves of talented and intelligent women and minorities.

Especially if he's unsure if his coach truly believes in him. As much as McHale tried to sell Lin's move to the second string as a mutual agreement reached after conversations with all parties and point guards involved, a source close to the situation said Lin felt blindsided by the loss of his job.

Lin is an Alpha dog, he wants to start.

Lin is posting a 19.37 PER. Wow. That's better than Wall, Lillard, Westbrook, Irving, Rubio, and D-Will.

Unfortunately our coach doesn't like looking at the numbers. He's got his own "advance" system.

Because our great coach still thinks he's still the scrub from Harvard that we cut so we can keep Flynn.

With all his Asian fans, Lin always has a shot of getting voted in as an all star. But of course in the West he doesn't deserve a spot on the team. Paul, Curry, Parker, and Westbrook are all definitely better, or will be when they shake of their rust. (Several others are arguably better.) The funny thing is, had Lin stayed in New York and put up the same numbers there, he might actually deserve a spot on the eastern team this year, maybe even the starting spot, since D-Will, Irving and Wall are all having weak statistical seasons so far.

    Teague.

Still early though. I hope Lin can keep it up.

Lin is having an excellent season, but you have to realize how dumb this is right?

Isaiah Thomas is 9th in PER
    Jordan hill is 11th
    Markieff Morris is 12th
    Jared Sullinger is 15th

Who are all better than Harden, Melo, Bosh, Wade, Parker, Lin and many more...

Whoopy... Good god man, McHale really cut you deep didn't he?

PER is meaningless with such a small sample size.
