i dont know about you guys but i think this is a pretty nice pick......i see Luther Head as being sort of like a Chauncey Billups or Ben Gordon type for us but with more defense and little bit less offense...from the articles i saw, he sounds like he's as clutch as those two

here's a picture for the people who wanted Salim

In my opinion, it is a very good pick at #24. You won't find a star at this late, unless you get very lucky. Also i am thankful we didn't get Simien, why draft him when we have Juwon. Juwon plays the exact same game as Simien, so we went and solve our slow backcourt problem by picking a quick guard, good shooter and good handles. I am just excited and just waiting for the summer league and Free agency. Peace and stop the negativity, spread the HEAD love.

So some people on Clutchbbs are saying that Wesley and Sura are gone. That leaves MJ.

Please tell me Mike James isn't going to end up running the offense for us. We all saw how "fluid" we were in the playoffs where Tmac eventually had to wave off James because James was dominating the ball too much. So basically tracy had to score, guard Dirk, AND play point. No wonder the dude was tired.

I like this pick too. We addressed the issue we had to address:
WHY WE LOST TO THE MAVS

    1. NO REBOUNDING
    2. NO QUICK GUARDS TO DEFEND THEIR QUICK GUARDS

    So we solved #2.
Luther has good size and quickness, plus he can hit the open jumper and get hot. I like him. Kinda like a cheap Rip Hamilton.

Now all we need is ... OTIS THORPE!

You should not call out "dumb posts" and rattle off like that when you don't know what you are talking about. Stoudamire was Arizona's best perimeter defender (according to Arizona's coach throughout the year) and has a complete offensive game (mid-range shot, to the hole, great off screens, off dribble). He does have attitude concerns, but certainly not work ethic concerns or BB IQ concerns, Olson had to prode him to shoot more.

No, that guy is more like Stoudamire.

I agree with you and Gater, I don't see a real different dimension in Head relative to James and Wesley. My concern is he will be another tweener guard who is an OK shooter (mid 30s pro 3 ball) and solid defender, but not a dead eye shooter nor great creator.

Personally, I would have liked to see the Rockets trade down and still pick up Stoudamire (who is a better shooter and scorer than any Rocket guard and thus provides a real different dimension to James or Wesley or Sura), Simeion, Taft or perhaps Turiaf. Seems to be after pick 20 there was a real drop off in value until the early 40s, including some bigs with talent and strength. Would have liked to get one of these guys (29-40) plus a conditional #1 or couple #2s rather than Head at #24. Overall, don't like how it shaked down (not moving up for a real gem) nor moving down for value/future considerations.

I'll keep an open mind and wait for the full offseason, but Head doesn't seem to add much. I got to think James or Sura or Head is part of a larger deal, probably for a big 2 or 3/2. We still need a 4 via free agency as well, as seeing the premium for Kurt Thomas (32 year old PF) doesn't bode well for getting value for trading guards or swingmen for 4s.

Still a lot of needs left, and the big two (SG with size, more athletic/strong PF) are the same.

I agree with the comparison to Billups. But I wanna think hes more like Gilbert Arenas with his hops and ability to create his own shot.

give the guy a chance. he could turn out to be the point guard we needed. this reminds me when we drafted Yao, everyone was moaning and b****ing, not me of course i knew Yao was the real deal , anyway i say give Head a chance. :p

Just hearing the chants in the 4th quarter of blowouts, "We want Head!", is worth the 24th pick.

This has to mean that they like Badiane more than Spanolis.......right?

Very strange, I wanted Simien, I think CD puts too much emphasis on height, look at Brand, he is only 6'8" ....oh well....I am not the GM, just a fan....

    GO ROCKETS !

    Head = Arenas?

At 6'3 185 lb, can Luther Head be a Gilbert Arenas (6'3 191lb) clone? Head is one of the stronger player guard wise in the draft with an awesome vertical. Played SG in college as Arenas did, hopefully he can develop like Arenas which may take a few years. Fast, good defensive, and strong as a PG and would have no problem dunking on Shawn Bradley if he come out of retirement. I hope JVG throw him in the mix to gain more experience. What you guys think?

We have dreamt of Boki becoming Peja so we'd better be cautiously optimistic on Head.

No, I think it means we will get a PF in a trade.

This is the direction i think it is going as well. The Rockets are apparently getting ready to make some moves in the free agency market and the pick is going to directly relate to it. We will probably be making some moves involving our guards and the Head pick was to fill in the back court holes we probably will have after the trades are made in the off season. It's obvious to see that we have a nice pool of guards on our team and roster now and some of them are going to be moved pretty soon and it will all clear up soon enough...then we will be saying ahhhhhh i get it now.

The comparisons have been made, and while exciting, I don't think Head has nearly the upside of Arenas. I'll be content if he makes a solid backup PG on the Rockets.

I'm telling you guys we just picked up the athletic ability of Steve Francis minus the dumbness. Better 3-point shooter and he won't be talking about himself in the third person. Can play 2 and some one.
