Well we needed help at the point and 4 and I like this pick. Maybe we can pick up a PF in the free agency hunt.

Dennis said they will "make a major move" in free agency. As expected.

Made a run at Gerald Green. Sounds like they didn't want to have Rashard Lewis Part Deux.

    Positive Outlook: Taller Bobby Jackson

    Most likely: Eddie House

Final Four Notebook: Head makes most of 2nd chance

Luther Head almost quit the team at the beginning of the season after he was suspended for two games for traffic violations and for driving without a license.

ST. LOUIS -- Illinois senior guard Luther Head will be a champion if the Illini defeat North Carolina in the national title game tonight.

You might say Head is pretty glad Illinois coach Bruce Weber didn't take him up on his offer to quit the team last season.

That was after Head was suspended for two games at the start of the Big Ten Conference season because of multiple traffic violations and for driving with a suspended license. He also had been suspended for the Illini's first two non-conference games because of his role in a burglary.

Head went to Weber and said he would leave the team if Weber thought he was too much of a distraction.

    "No way," Weber told him.

"He said, 'What do you want me to do?' " Weber said.

    "I said, 'Change.' "

Weber, then in his first season as Illinois' coach, took media heat for sticking with Head. But, as he put it, "If I turn my back to these guys, I may lose the program. ... Luther is a good kid. It bothered him that he screwed up. He was embarrassed about it and he showed such remorse. I think that's the sign of a good kid."

Head has been the leading scorer on an Illinois team that is 37-1 and has been ranked No. 1 most of the season. He made six 3-point shots and scored 20 points in the 72-57 win against Louisville Saturday night. Off the court, Head needs only an internship this summer to get his degree in sports management.

"If you don't give up on players, they won't give up on you," Weber said. "That's what education is all about. It's helping kids change, adjust, grow."

He also said that they hope the Head pick makes more sense as they try to put their team together.

It was Green they tried to move up for

    Edit: I'm just too slow

I just got back from the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, participating in Utah's draft party. There are some Rockets fans out there (wearing Yao/TMac jerseys). They booed loudly after seeing the Jazz picked Luther Head with their 24th pick.

Prediction...our new Cattino Mobley. I like it. Sura or Barry would be an interesting counter point to this guys game.

Well...now it is time to start guessing just what big FA moves they have planned.

Im ok with this pick..like others have said...we werent gonna improve over Howard with a 24...I would rather have the best athlete available, and according to what is being posted about him, Head looks to be a scrappy player that will help improve our guard spots..

PLus...we get to make tacky Head jokes for a while.

Even bad Head is good Head... :D

What would it take to deal with C's? Taking Raef's bloated contract?

If we don't get a PF this offseason, we will have egg all over our faces and most likely another early playoff exit, no matter how good Head turns out to be.

I hope CD has a master plan.. trade Wesley/Sura/Barry or some combination thereof.

Well, Lindsey says the Luther Head pick will make more sense once the dust settles on free agency.

I hope so, otherwise I don't see the need for another combo-guard, let alone another PG.

So, does Head deter Cat from coming back? If I am Mobley, I am looking at the back court on the Rockets and shaking my head. Where's there room?

i think the rockets want a bigger SG (6'5+). head may be james' replacement as a backup PG.

james said he will go after the biggest contract next summer. that might have been news enough for JVG to think about moving him. james is also one of our most tradable players, if not the most.
