I guess Jeff missed Steve's play after all. It's like he went to Wal-mart to search for his replacement.

In hindsight, Simien going to Miami will make us look like fools. The lineup and system will break him in fine. If he or any other PF was drafted here, the pressure and system would be totally different. We're not really looking for a do everything scorer type in the 4 spot. Just some guy to enforce, rebound and relieve pressure off Yao Ming, pull off the catch and shoot, otherwise pass the ball to Yao or throw it out to the swingmen.

You can't really expect a rookie to do all those little things. Look for the Rockets to pull off some midseason trades for a veteran piece who can.

Seriously guys, let me just say that this pick makes a LOT of sense when you look at it from this perspective...

Which team did we just come off playing in the 1st round? The Mavs. OK, now, what was our NUMBER ONE weakness that was continuously exploited by the Mavs? It was the lack of speed and athleticism in our backcourt that really killed us. The speed/athleticism of the other teams has hurt us all season long. Now, how do you cheaply address that problem? By picking a backcourt player who is known for his speed and athleticism.

So really, from that perspective, it makes lots of sense.

Moreover, this just confirms more than anything else that the Rockets are going to fill the void at PF with a more experienced, reliable PF from the free agency pool, or through trades.

Apparently, this has been the Rockets' strategy all along, and I can understand why.

The only problem I have is what position Head is going to play. He's got a good shot and plays good D, but I don't really like the idea of having another undersized guard.

Shift him to point and run some Steve Francis plays....the ones that don't involve standing around.

Are you new to this board! Our claim to fame IS people ejaculating all over themselves before they have a random clue as to what the facts are.

Just to play Devil's Advocate, 6'3" isn't exactly undersized at the PG position, which is where he will be playing. He is reportedly a good defender, is clearly quick and aggressive when attacking the basket. If we move Sura, James or (please, please, please, please) Ward, I am fine with this pick.

Hakim Warrick is the guy I wanted and was suprised to see him drop so far.

BTW, 610 keeps mentioning CD being pulled back into a meeting.....possibly to aquire a 2nd round pick.

I'm just glad he'll be able to finish on the fast break.

if this guy can shoot (what's his percentage from 3?) and play defense, it doesn't matter too much that he isn't a playmaker or pure pG. tmac can bring the ball up. we need a guy that can play tough perimeter D and spot up to shoot.

I guess Head can be sort of like Jason Terry. A guy SG in a PG's body with a couple of pg skills.

I read that he has a NBA 3point shot, and it might have been his season % but i think he shot 41% from outside in the tournament.

I think we should nickname him "Unbelievable". :D

I've never watched him play, but I hope he can come in and contribute.

With who was left on the board, I'm fine with the Head pick. It would also be absurd to say we screwed the draft up before we know if this kid is the real deal. I watched him play quite a bit for Illinois, and he is a nasty player. Reminds me of Mobley with better handels. At least we took a stab at our pg of the future. I'm optimistic, and know that when you play next to the best pg in the country, and still average about 4 assists, you have passing skills. One of the most athletic players in the draft.

Whoops, I meant to put SG. I don't know if JVG wants a rookie/combo guard playing PG for a contending team. 6'3" for a PG is a perfect size, but I don't think he has good enough skills to play PG right away.

Warrick dropping that far was like a big tease for me. I knew he was going to get picked before we do but man was I hoping.

Please, keep the out of towners updated w/ 610. :D

i dont really like the pick but i dont think the pf's left on board were what the rockets were looking for, we need a long athletic pf who can block shots rebound and hit the mid range shot...wayne simien is too short in my opinion, i would of like to get a sg/sf like francisco garcia but he was taken b4

    Screw up? Hardly.

Luther Head is underrated because he's small to play the 2 and doesn't have PG credentials in the college, not because he's got big flaws in his game. He's a good baller to being with. With Yao and T-Mac the Rockets don't necessarily need a John Stockton type of play maker to run the point. They need someone who can shoot, defend, and penetrate a little to alleviate T-Mac's burden. A combo guard is fine under the Rocket's team structure. Head seems to be the type of player that fits the bill. He has the potential to be a better player than Sura or Wesley given the experience, and he'd contribute right away. I'm fine with the pick.
