http://www.midwestsportsfans.com/20...Feed:+MidwestSportsFans+(Midwest+Sports+Fans) After reading this, im scratching my head. Is Melo leaving because he wants to win? Really? If not, what is his true motive? Before the Rockets or anyone else throw down their chips to get him, this needs to become known, doesnt it?
Look, while its not blow you socks off exciting, adding servicable pieces that have atleast some value will pay off eventually. Two or three Budingers might get you an Igguy, Wallace, or Granger Two or three Iggy, Martins might get you a CP3, Melo, etc. Just be thankful we arent a team that a star is flat our walking away from for nothing like the Torontos, Clevelands and Denvers. If you can't get a superstar, you can atleast set yourself up the next one that might be available.
Chandler is a nice piece to play off of other stars, but not a coveted part of a major trade. Would you trade Battier or Budinger for him???.. of course, but not a centerpiece to a major trade.
Chandler would be the one Knick I'd get excited about trading for, if we S&T Melo during the Summer. I'm very skeptical about gunning for a superstar via FAgency. Should stars want to play with the Rox so they can win right away, sure, but sadly it looks like a lot of the new aged stars have personal agendas besides simply winning.
My previous post on this page suggests this very thing. If we, or any team, trades for Melo (or any other Superstar) that has an agenda besides winning, isnt their a really big chance things will backfire big time?
However, if they dont play, their value goes down dramatically. The problem the Rockets have right now with their assets is not having their talents showcased properly. -Hill should have never left Brad Miller's side off the bench -Brooks is injured -Budinger had a major shooting slump, and continues to not improve defensively -Inconsistent minutes for Ish, TWilliams, Jefferies.
Right now, Melo is one guy that worries me because it's obvious winning isn't his primary focus. He wants to play in NY/NJ and will end up there one way or another. I wouldn't call it a risk but if all we get out of it is a late 1st rd pick and a large T/E then it puts us back in a waiting period. I have the feeling Morey is now playing for 2012, he knows there won't be a superstar available anytime soon and wants to stay competitive as long as possible for that summer thus not wanting to take on crappy deals that might take up that cap space. Howard is another guy that won't go somewhere to just win, rather because of his agenda and Paul the same. The only guy of the up-coming FAgents that I see willing to play with a winner regardless of location or agenda is Deron Williams.
ill send BUD on the first flight to New York if I could get chandler for him.....The guy can score and play D.....1 extra thing both Battier and Bud cant do...(bud=zero D , Batt=zero O/besides shooting threes all game)....I would say Chandler is servicable in that equation....IT IS WRITTEN IF WE COULD JUST MORPH BATTIER WITH BUD, EVERYTHING WE BE JUST FINE... .....BUTTIER!!
Hard to tell how much winning actually means to Carmelo. The Nuggets were in the WCF just two years ago, and injury problems/George Karl's health problems effectively derailed their chances last season. Denver's current roster has a better chance to win now than would a Nets team devoid of talents like Harris and Favors. Does a group consisting of Melo, Brook Lopez, Chauncey and Rip even sniff the Eastern Conference Finals with Boston, Miami, Orlando or even Chicago as strong as they are? I don't think a trip to the second round or WCF with the Rockets convinces Melo to stay in Houston. Dude just seems hell-bent on playing in New York.
Winning? LOL - it sure looks like he is all about celebrity and not much about that... So, let New Jersey/Brooklyn have him... Melo better take the NJ deal or he might get stuck with a lot less $$$$ and if he doesn't opt out, Denver might be able to franchise him and he never gets to leave. This is it, Melo....I think CP3 will be screwed in the new CBA.... DD
The Nuggets aren't going to win it all. He knows that. If they kept Camby, they might have an outside shot but it's not happening there.
I see the opposite, actually. No Rockets player or prospect is more attractive to a rebuilding team than Favors. And Harris may be the same, though you could argue this. Plus they're offering multiple picks. The Rockets can come in with quantity and salary flexibility, and if they are remotely close with their package for a rental, then Denver doesn't have to cave in to Carmelo or his agent's demands. But personally I believe the Rockets bowed out when they dealt for Terrence Williams.
For me it was when Yao went down, because a rental makes no sense at this point, even with Melo this team is not winning anything this year. DD
i think this team could if carmelo came for lets say.. budinger yao and hill.. oh yeah and there has to be a pretty decent Center that comes with Carmelo i think we would be really good actually
I don't get all the Melo love on this board. What the hell has he done to justify such respect? Is Denver a pretty good team? Are they contenders with Melo? They're just filler right now, and that's with Billups, Kenyon Martin, Nene and Melo on the squad. What makes you think this same Melo will be enough to make us a contender? He won't fix the defensive issues in the paint, and the pieces you trade to get him will sap the team of whatever talent it has. Sure he can create at the end of games, but he isn't converting enough, because if he is Denver would be among the top teams in the West, and not stuck in limbo like we are.
IMO the "Houston is a team that would trade for Melo even for a rental" is a communication strategy by Morey. If I was a close friend with Morey, and asked him if he would trade for Melo knowing he could possibly lose him in FA or S&T for peanuts, he would refuse the gamble. This strategy only benefits Houston, because we now can offer far less then the Nets, be cause "it is a rental". Until proved wrong, this trade package of Billups, Rip and Melo to the Nets is not "real", Melo would not sign an extension with them (maybe I am wrong). I actually think that this "almost deal" with the Nets is being pushed by Denver.... there is NO WAY they think that besides those players and picks they get, they still manage to lose that Harrington horrible contract and add another draft pick, I think all of this is fake DM knows that the team that lands him, will most likely have him sign an extension, there is no way Melo doesn´t go after the Money. If I had to put my money: 1. NYK 2. Houston/any other team that would take a "rental" 3. NJN In this order... PeAcE
Would the Nets give up Favors without a guaranteed extension from Melo? I don't think anyone believes we can match the Nets offer if Melo will extend with them. But if it's just a rental, we might we willing to give up more than NJ would.
If one believes what one reads, Stern and his Acolytes may also force players to return $$$s from guaranteed contracts in the ratification of the CBA. I've come to believe that either the deal is done by 7/10/11 or we kiss '11-'12 Good (effing) By! And the players deal by 7/10 will be better than when one is ratified for '12-'13 season.
