Rokkit's "Time to learn how to cook" thread inspired me to create the Clutchfans Recipe Book. We will get tons of great recipes for different categories from clutchfans posters then I will make a printable .pdf file with all the recipes. Here are the categories that we came up with so far. I will make a new thread for each one every week: 1) Breakfast 2) Soup and Salad 4) lunch ideas 5) Appetizers 6) Meat - poultry, beef, pork 6) Barbecue ideas 8) Regional 9) International 10) Desserts Sound good? Did i miss something or should it be in a different order? Vegetarian dishes, Drinks? Comments & suggestions welcome.
How about if each recipe gets submitted as a poll... either a yes/no poll of "should the recipe be included in the cookbook?" or a "scale of 1-5, 5 being the best" poll thoughts?
The poll is a good idea, but might be too much to handle. Limiting recipes might be a better idea. Certainly there won't be that many contributions per category? Just tossing out random thoughts here...
I agree...that way we will be prompted to pick our best/favorite! And if one category is lacking.....you can always up it to two for that category.
ME FIRST!! ME FIRST!! CAJUN RED POTATO SALAD 12 Medium sized red potatoes, cut into bite sized pieces 1 medium sized onion, chopped fine 2 jars of sliced pimentos, drained 1 jar of sliced green olives, drained 6-8 cloves of garlic, chopped fine ¾ cup olive oil ½ cup creole mustard ¼ cup balsamic vinegar --Bring 4 quarts of water to a boil. Add potato pieces. --Boil potato pieces for approximately 5 minutes until fully cooked. Do not boil too long or else they will become mushy. --Combine potato pieces, chopped onion, pimentos, and green olives in a large bowl. Mix well. --In a separate bowl, combine garlic, olive oil, creole mustard and balsamic vinegar. Using a wire whisk, mix together vigorously until well blended. This makes the dressing for the potato salad. --Pour the dressing into the larger bowl that contains the potato pieces, chopped onion, pimentos, and green olives. Mix well. --Place in refrigerator and chill for 2-3 hours. Mix once more before serving. I invented this two weeks ago for a barbecue I had at my house. I wanted to make a potato salad that was a little different, and invented it as I went along. My guests went nuts for it and asked for the recipe.
Not Yet!!! Starting tomorrow, I will post TWO threads (I figure we can handle 2 simultaneously a week) Tomorrow will be Drinks & Breakfast
Drinks? Beer Ingredients: 1 bottle beer 1 bottle opener Directions: Grasp beer firmly in left hand and bottle opener in right hand. Position bottle opener where the little tab is below the cap, and the other part is on top of the cap. Lift with a swift upward motion until cap comes off. Drink. Repeat as necessary. Beer Delux Ingredients: 1 bottle beer 1 set of vocal cords 1 female assistant (wife or girlfriend) While sitting in favorite chair or couch, use vocal cords to yell "Honey, get me a beer!" Have female assistant perform directions as specified in above recipe entitled "Beer"
I recommend in order to limit the recipes, that we don't include some that have a million ingredients. I'm just a caveman. I fell on some ice and later got thawed out by some of your scientists. Your world frightens and confuses me! Sometimes the size of these recipes make me want to get out from behind my computer.. and run off into the hills, or wherever..
Well, the recipe should probably indicated prep and cook time. There probably will be a mixture of "gourmet elite" recipes and "quick and easy" recipes.
This is a GREAT idea, and it will finally force me to write down recipes for some of the things I cook. Thank you.
I am certainly looking forward to leeching as much BBQ info as possible from you and (hopefully) Behad.
I just came up with one in my head. I dare someone to try it. BBQ chicken snow cone. Mice Chicken, add BBQ sauce, add to water equal parts and freeze in ice cube trays. Then finely shave cubes into snow cone. Enjoy.
