Trading Yao's contract to Denver in a deal that would involve shipping Melo to NJ or NY (prefer NJ, but at this point it's not gonna happen) makes sense. It kinda reminds me of shipping out Olajuwan. Trading Brooks would be better.

Harrington isn't bad, but his contract is.

I wouldn't mind having Nene and his tenacity on this team. He's a solid center despite the fact that he isn't much of a shot blocker and he can shoot the midrange jumper. Granger on the other hand, I'm not too sure if he'd be that much of an improvement over Martin.

It's not bad. He isn't a lock down defender, but he is much better on defense than Martin, and at least the equal of Lee.

I think we should still try find a deal for a young defensive wing or center, that would be great to accompany one of these players if they are to be traded to us. Does anyone know of any available players like that fitting into this deal? I think without one of those this trade wouldn't make as much of an impact as it could.

Martin plays shooting guard and Granger plays small forward.

How? He'll be back as a Rocket in 2011-12 regardless.

Another solid post as usual. I would be more interested in Granger than Nene though. It seems DM wants to go the Pistons route. It won't be easy, because it will require moving quite a lot of pieces. It may not work out in the long term either.

Even if you are underwhelmed by Granger, suppose CP3, Howard or Dwill becomes available...a package of Granger/Martin is hard to beat.

This is a very good point. Also Granger and Martin could be solid role players if we got a CP3/Howard/Dwill

I'd say Nene is more of a possibility than Granger. Nene would solve a lot of issues that we gripe about on a nightly basis in regards to not having a big man to get an important rebound or provide somewhat of a defensive presence in the middle.

Don't know what would go but I think someone's actions a few nights ago makes it obvious he is part of some trade that happens before the deadline.

Don't expect to see Granger get moved. Why? Because since they fired OBrien (who sure had a knack for getting his team to beat us until recently), they are on a 4-game winning streak and look active defensively, subsequently putting them in the playoff picture for now. They're playing very good basketball, and still have the very tradeable TJ Ford, which makes me think they want to bring another piece in, not move a cornerstone of their franchise away.

Nene is solid, and while I'd love him on the team, he's another guy with a list of destinations, and hasn't openly said the Rockets are on that list. As such, I'm not sure I'd want to make a deal for another upcoming free agent guy who might just blow us off in the summer, or who could command a lot of money.

Alternatively, I'd like to see us take a swing at Przybilla and Dalembert. I think this deal seems fair:

Acquiring Granger or Nene does not necessarily take the Rockets out of being players in 2012 free agency. Not if Martin or Scola is moved in such a trade (or if they are moved between now and July 2012).

And about "shifting the draft positioning," are you seriously worried about making a playoff push this season and ending up with a "terrible" pick at, say, #17 overall, instead of a "franchise-changing" pick at, say, #11 overall???

This Rockets team is simply too good to end up with a top-8 pick or to have any real chance at winning the lottery. And even if they went out for the remainder of this season and "only played the young guys" and "rested their starters" and so on, this team would STILL finish with a pick no better than #9 or so overall.

So, what's the point? I'd rather just make the damn playoffs.

And, yes, leebigez, I know you say it like you see it. That's what I like about you. I just wish you'd update the prescription on those glasses, man. :p

Nene is from Brazil; our climate is closest to the Amazon jungle of the NBA cities, I think he would feel right at home here. Also, the flights to Brazil would be quicker from Houston if he wanted to go home to see friends and family.

(edit, he's from San Carlos, per Wikipedia with altitude over 856 m, offering a mild altitude climate)

Well, the point is to be in the best possible position on draft night to take advantage of our assets to (hopefully) land us that franchise player.

Sure, there might not be much of a difference between the #17th pick and the #11th pick. But on draft night trades, the (5) spot difference between picks could make the difference in our ability to move up. While we have a very slim chance at landing a top three pick, there is always the possibility that a guy we target falls to around the #6-8ish range (like a Rudy Gay/Brandon Roy did). I think leebigez just wants us to be in the best possible draft positioning to help us land that star player this summer.

But Bima, that is precisely the point. A threesome of granger, scola, superstar FA, or granger, martin, superstar FA is not much better than a scola, martin, superstar FA threesome. what's the point of trading for granger when it is going to cost us a player of virtually comparable value (whether in a trade or through a salary dump)? Is there no way to keep scola, keep martin, add a guy like granger, and still sign a stud FA in 2012 (and keep them together for a couple of years)?

It doesn't feel right unless he comes back to Houston.

I would love to get Nene or Granger. I think Granger is a better player than Nene, but less of a need. Plus, I don't know about Granger/Martin/Scola a the 2,3,4.

    Granger+Foster for Miller+ Budinger+Brooks+Hill+Jeffries+Clippers 2nd rounder=+Lottery protected 2012.

    Foster/Hayes
    Scola/Patterson
    Granger/Battier
    Martin/Lee
    Lowry/Smith

And then we have Williams to develop.

    I can see either.

If Denver gets scraps for Melo, then they will (should) want to blow it up.

And I think the Pacers see Granger in a different light than those on this board.

But I have to remain pessimistic and recall that Bosh was our summer time target and we all know how that turned out.

I hope Chuck Hayes' agent is listening to all of these rumors. They have been trying to replace him from day one. I hope he tells The Rockets to kiss off and signs with a contender next season...

I wish he'd get traded to a contender this season. The guy certainly deserves it.

But the reason the Rockets are looking for a replacement for Chuck Hayes has very little to do with anything he can control.
