I've always enjoyed JF. He always seems to keep himself out of the way and get the story out. The dude is a Rocket reporting legend just like this site is the Rockets legendary fan site.

The list of names goes on and on from JF. I'd love a once a month memory lane podcast from him.

Thanks Clutch this made my morning and I've only heard the first 16 min so far. Back to the podcast...

Good listen. I like that he was so forthcoming with information. Not every team beat guy is like that.

I think he meant to say "The Rockets view Nix as another First Round THICCC"

At 6-4 225 he has the potential

    I agree 100%.
They HAVE TO GET BIGGER AND MORE PHYSICAL UP FRONT.

Had several scouts tell me he is a 4 or maybe a small ball 5 but not a 3.

He is forthcoming with what the organization is willing to get out there. He knows a LOT but he also knows he is out of a job if the Rockets front office shuts him out… so he knows what he can and cannot say. Saying things like the Rockets think really highly of Nix isn’t going to upset the Rockets.

i have never respected this guy as a journalist because going back decades he’s been little more than a mouthpiece for the organization. jonathan feigning as an actual reporter while turning a blind eye to tilfuk’s luxury tax savings on steroids, for instance

Definitely no scout here but I disagree. I think he grew and stacked some weight on at Duke. Then, played the 4 because that is what they needed there. I still think he can be a small forward for some minutes. Especially if he intentionally slims down a bit.

He actually grew even before he played his first game for Duke. I remember following him and Chet as they were battling for #1 recruit status, and I was always amazed at how well he handled and passed the ball for somebody 6'8" - 6'9" tall and weighing between 225-235 lbs. That's what he was listed at in high school. Then I read in Duke's camp he was 6'10" and 250, I was like wth... he's about to be the first 7-foot freight train of a point guard if he keeps growing.

That was awesome to listen to and it is amazing that JF still has passion for the sport, and doesn't seem worn down like Blinebury did back in the day.

    Best podcast ever.

Does not play like 4 or even small ball 5.

Plays more like wing or guard.

Not great rebounder or rim protector.

Banchero was like at 235-240 in HS. I look at these photos and he looks like a big wing. Makes me wonder if he should slim back down from his current 250 weight. I don't know about sports science and if that is the best move. Maybe he is better at 250, idk

He still prefers to play like a wing too.

Also played better defense (more engaged) when he was 235.

But there is no doubt he is top 3 player, whether at 250 or 235, whether a 4 or a 3.

    Too talented.

I did not know that. Like I said, not sure ultimately what is best, but feels like he could be more versatile as a big wing.
